ok guys....

Emissions and noise test is next wednesday

Items i can forsee being a problem:

Catch can - not vented to atmo, plumbed back into intake
Exhaust - will be changing to my SS commodore rear muffler, 88db

but, main problem is Intake and intercooler, as i think in vic your only allowed to have one or the other?? If so, is this an issue of roadworthiness, or an EPA issue,.. because if it aint an EPA issue, i wont change back to an E123 intake w/box for the test.....

thoughts?

I can't see any of it being a problem, as nothin on your car is vent to atmosphere. I'm pretty sure its only for stuff like BOV's that vent to atmosphere that you have a problem.

Just my 2 cents

but that isnt EPA's problem though is it?
i guess what im trying to work out is if they are going to go over the car like they do in a roadworthy inspection - which i dont think they will, not sure.... :?

emissions and noise levels is all EPA does isnt it.......

there are 2 inspectors that look over the car

1st - general vehicle inspection, checking blow off valve/ intercooler/ catch can/ intake, engine numbers etc etc - they are pretty thorough, and actually know what theyre talking about
2nd - emissions test
3rd - noise test

they record all your modifications and enter them in to their database

funniest thing was b4 me, there was p-plate WRX driver there, 19" chrome dip platter rims, massive exhaust, turbosmart type 3 BOV - and he got shat on

Wot an idiot! How could you think that you could get through with a atmospheric BOV, big exhaust, and rims lol. Some people need a good slappen

realm

Just thought i might add my results to this:

idle - 2% CO
high idle - 3.96% CO (very rich)

legal limit in vic - 4% CO

CO is all they actually measure, unless they know that you are running aftermarket management. CO levels are a 'direct' measure of Air/Fuel ratios.

I also enquired about aftermarket management, in regards to be used in order to bring down CO levels throughout the rev-range. Firstly, they are just plain and simple illegal in VIC, but secondly, and also more interestingly, while adding a programmable management system can correct A/F ratios, the main concern is that while they will reduce the CO level you are putting out, by doing this, you actually increase levels of nitrogen oxides (NO etc) which are emitted as a result.

Basically what im getting at is that by reducing A/F ratio to bring down CO output, does not neccesarily mean that your cars ouput gasses are cleaner.

Just my 2 cents worth for the day :p

An interesting 2 cents. Since you seem to have done the research, Is NO worse then CO? Or a 6 of one half a dozen of the other?

 One causes acid rain after a while, and the other increases global warming over time!

Take your pick!

That explains why my clothes have holes in them. It due to punks using aftermarket ECUs to emit more NO which goes into the atmosphere, mixes with Water to get Nitric acid. i get it.
