Going to do the 5 stud conversion on the gsr

What model magna hubs are used??

And can I use the discs and calipers off them

Currently looking at a 2000 model at the wreckers

Here's a link, I did a 5-stud howto writeup awhile ago:

http://evocoupe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4567

I used FTO hubs.
Its for FWD models, but is the same thing (front) as GSRs/Evos.

To do rear I redrilled my hubs instead of going the more expensive option of getting late model evo hubs:

Cheers,

I've got a TS Magna that I was thinking of getting rid of.

Could I use the front hubs from this to convert my GSR, and then get the GSR rears re-drilled for 5 stud to complete the conversion?

I brought Verada hubs for the RVR & my tie rods will be going in from the bottom up, rather than top down that the std RVR has.
In my case being lowered about 45mm, the rack rods will sit flat with the tie rods going in upside down = Less bump steer.
Check to see if the TS Magna hub steering arms have the tapered hole going upwards like my Verada ones have.
If the TS Magna axles are the same length as the GSR ones, the outer splines will match & the box spline is the same.
My Verada RHS axle has my viscous lsd cv on it. The axle is cut back 30mm & resplined for my lsd cv joint.
The Magna axles are thicker than GSR axles. Verada & RVR HSG are the same diameter.
Cheers !

Ok- After spending ALL day at the local pick a part I can confirm that the tr and ts magnas that we come across all have a 27 spline shaft....so must have all been 92 onwards......

edit: apparently we need to find a 91 model tr with 25 spline shaft.......

you sure? could you double check the spline count??
The reason i ask is, all the 93 models we come across today had 27 spline shafts and hubs......

I don't know what year the Verada V6 hubs are. The 160 centres suit Evo 7-8 Brembos & that's why I scored them.
Axles are 27 teeth for the hub & the inner is 25 teeth that suits the box. But they are longer axles than VR4/CC.
Dunno if this helps.
Cheers !

needs to be 91 or early 92 as they are the 25 spline ones

all later ones are 27 spline, 4 or 6 cylinder.

the early ones are pretty hard to find so fto may be easier to find.

jamo just get fto hubs. spend the extra $50 and dont worry about it. problem solved!

Alex, if it was as easy as that, that would be the plan!! The only fto hubs I have found so far, the guy wants $300 for the pair!!!
I'm going back to the wreckers to find an early one today.... Hopefully!!

They are pretty steep that's true. Mine were $200 for the pair from a wreckers. If your price includes the twinpots, then that would be a pretty awsome price!

Alex I'm unsure if it included the brakes....
Either way I followed the advice and searched high and low today for an early(91) model to no avail... BUT I thought of what pad4g63 posted and checked the early 93 model and BINGO!! 25 spline shafts!!! So I now have the hubs I need, stoked!!
So to sum up, SOME of the 93 models have the correct shafts others(later models) do not, can't confirm the 91 model as I found none at the local wreckers.
Hope this helps the OP too ?

How do you know tell how many spline shafts there are if you have a complete car?

I've got a '93 TS Magna Executive (Auto).

Do I have to start pulling the thing apart?: I don't really have the time or facilities to do that :(

If the Magna axles are thicker than the GSR axles, as Rockabilly says, how the Hell do they fit onto the GSR?

Just to add to my frustrations, I came across these whilst googling "FTO Front Hubs"?

If only they made Mitsu ones!!

boostboy76 nobody answered your question about TS Magna hubs, so I quoted your post.
Yes Magna axles are thicker, but the spline shaft fits your diff & fits your hub at the other end.
I said my axle is cut back 30mm & resplined so I could match the length I needed.
I was quoted $150 to do the machining, but I offered $200 if he could do it NOW = Yeah ok !
The Verada cvs are 5 or 6 ball cv joints, but the spline section is the same as VR4 or Lancer.
I'm guessing you want to use the TS hubs & calipers, not just the hubs.
If FTO is cheaper & easier, go for it.
Cheers !

Johnathan- all you need to do to check the spline count is remove wheel then undo the 32mm nut on the end of the driveshaft with split pin(remove first)
then once that nut and washer are off you can see the end of the shaft where the splines start... Mark the one where you start counting and cross your fingers you end on 25!!! You only need the hub not the shaft so it doesn't matter that the shaft is thicker as long as it has 25 splines on the hub side... You still use your GSR drive shafts not the magna ones. Hope that makes sense, it's only early!!

Front hubs are the easiest part of the 5stud conversion

Really? I though redriling the rears on a GSR would be the easiest bit compared to the fronts, what with the FTO/Magna messing around with pressing out bits etc.

@ Rockabilly - Ahh, so it doesn''t matter how thick the axles is, as long as the spline shaft fits the diff.

@ jamo-gsr - Cheers, that's what I was after! Now at least I can have a go myself! Not afraid to have a go as long as I've got some idea about what I'm doing!

Sorry, you're explaining things to a bit of a noob when it comes to diffs/driveshafts/hubs/tie-rod ends, etc.

Thanks for your patience guys.

BOOSTBOY,

if you read my how-to link, you will notice that I said:

with FTO hub ass'y you DONT need to press it out, it bolts straight on as a hub/knuckle assembly. It's only with magna hubs that you may have to press them out and fit them to your evo/gsr knuckles.

Hence why buying FTO ass'y is actually easiest option.
