my front left does this aswell...

someone said it could be a sway bar link but i have no idea!

does it do a single click sometimes on right hand turns aswell...?

A clicking sound usually indicates a CV joint issue or steering rod end issue, whereas a clunk/clunking generally means something suspension related.

Front shocks for a GSR would probably cost around $150 each nowdays, I paid $140 in 2003, inclusive of GST.

Thats for KYB replacements:

FR L #334098
FR R #334097

These are complete struts, so there is no need to put inserts in if they were Koni.

They should generally be replaced in pairs too, as if one has given up the ghost the other can't be far off.

If you can get your hands on some spring compressors you can probably do this yourself to save some $$$, about 1.5hrs for an average DIY'er.

In terms of bushes that could be clunking, swaybar end link bushes are $25ish for a pack or 8 bushes, very simple DIY. The 'D' Bushes for the front swaybar could also be causing you some trouble, but they don't generally clunk.

Is the car behaving badly on the road? like veering off on its own on a straight road? or really spongy at the front? You can always do the 'shake' test, go to the front corners and bounce the car up and down a bit and then let go. The car should bounce back up and stop without any further movement. If it takes a little longer to settle then thats a good sign the shocks are going/gone.

You can always take it a suspension place for a $14 steering, brake and suspension inspection to get a definitive diagnosis :)

Also, try checking to make sure they aren't loose, by popping open the bonnet and tightening them. also, could try by open bonnet, push down on front guards and see if the rod bounces up and down.
