Hi guys
FOR SALE: WHITE 1993 UF NIMBUS
A CHEAP RUNAROUND TRANSPORTER
WHY IS IT FOR SALE?
I'm about to upgrade the main family car to a newish 2009-2012 Toyota RAV4 SX6, therefore I get my Mrs' current TJ Ralliart Magna as my runaround car when I'm not driving the AWD turbo coupe on weekends. I also have a company issued VE Commodore ute as my daily work car, so having the opportunity to drive or use 5 cars going isn't a very cost efficient exercise when it comes to 4 x yearly outlays in rego and insurance. Now that soccer season is finished and I'm not working on cars as much as I used to, this means its time to say bye-bye to my once a weekend soccer, car part, tools, engine crane and versatility transporter... the trusty old 1993 UF Nimbus.
SPECS
This is a 21 year old car.
The car has the 4G64 16v SOHC EFI 7-bolt engine in it. Yes, the one people use for 4G64 conversions or stroker crank conversions into a 4G63 EVO I-VI block.
It has a manual 5 speed FWD transmission (mainly autos were sold as soccer mum cars).
I rebuilt the engine in 2009 and its only got 72,000kms on it. The rebuild included a re-hone, full bottom and top end gasket kits, new head gasket, new rings, new bearings, new timing belt, new clutch, new cat converter, new water pump and filters. The odometer itself has 278k on it but the engine was rebuilt at 206k.
I've been running it on E10 fuel without issues since the engine was rebuilt too so there's some consolation in fuel savings too.
Everything works in the car - aircon, power steering, power mirrors, power windows, central locking etc. Sometimes it wants to idle a bit higher than normal (1500rpm) and I couldn't give a toss sorting it out as it was only ever driven for short trips <50kms on weekends to soccer and back or for slutting car parts around. I have driven it to Sydney and back a few times (approx. 300km round trip) without any issues too.
Its surprisingly gutsy for a 2.4 and in my opinion actually goes harder down low and midrange than its newer MIVEC 2.4 cousins.
It is reliable and starts first time every time, plus was once my daily driver to work and back before I got the VE Commodore work ute 12 months ago.
Therefore the Nimbus has rarely been driven in the past 12 months. Easily <3,000kms in the past year.
It has 16" mag wheels with good tread left on the Bridgestone Supercat tyres. Wheel PCD is the same as GSR/EVO I-III at 4x114.3 stud pattern.
It's a 7-seater for transporting all the boys to car shows or parties without taking 2 cars instead, or lay all the back seats down into a bed and sleep in it yourself whilst you're at Jamboree, Powertune or WTAC!!
The car can be driven as a normal 5 seater all the time and the extra 2 rear seats fold flat and can raise up and lock into position when you need all 7 seats. Or recline all the back seats backward to make a big soft bed or carry long items from the driver's seat backward (engine crane, surf board, car panels, home renovations wares, TV's, you name it - It's been great for doing just that.
The body is straight with no panel damage. Interior is good except for a 5cm vinyl tear in one of the rear door trims from something cutting it during transportation. Seats are all good and comfortable with no tears or damage. It has cup holders front and back!! Driver's door has control of all the power windows and central locking too. Each door has a light in it that turns on when it is opened. I'm amazed at how good and optioned up these cars were when compared to the old CC Lancers of the same era.
Its just a normal working no frills car. It wont win you any car shows, but it will win you with its versatility.
REGO
The car is still registered til 22 December (got to check exact date but its only a few days before Xmas), so it's got 3 months of NSW rego left on it. It will pass pink slip inspection no problem just like its always done every year.
PURPOSE
Its suits being a run around car, a parts transporter, or even put the engine and gearbox into something else. OR build the engine with a DOHC head for a 4G64 2.4 turbo conversion.
OR take it on a road trip and fold the back seats down and sleep in it overnight. It's versatile for just about anything and saves using any of your good cars from wear and tear.
PRICE
I'm looking for $1500 take it as it is and drive it away.
END GAME
If it doesn't sell I might sell the Ralliart Magna instead. OR I may just rip the 4G64 engine and gearbox out of it and save them for a rainy day, then get some $$ back on scrapping the rest of the car and selling the mags and tyres. So overall its worth that much in parts and 3 months worth of rego anyway. Plus Evo owners are finding the 7-bolt crank 4G64 engines are getting harder to find now that these cars are getting more scarce and scrapped by wreckers due to low demand from people wanting parts for them anymore. It would be a shame to do as its served its purpose well as a cheap transporter for me for the last 5 years.
LOCATION
Located north of Newcastle NSW, just off the M1 Pacific Motorway (Pacific Highway near Heatherbrae).
Will list this up on Facebook Mitsubishi Groups as well.
