3rd gear dies because when the broken pieces from the centre diff come out of the side holes, they get caught up in the centre diff gear teeth, whipped around the casing (scraping the fuk out of the inside casing around the centre diff) and then get compressed between the centre diff gear and 3rd gear intermediate. When you have pieces in 3rd gear intermediate it then spins onto 3rd subgear on the input shaft. See blue pics.
Ive also included pics of a blown centre diff to show you what gets thrown about = white pics lol

at twelve hundred for it is...to be honest its a bargain. If it was over here...where the gsr is a bit fewer. We have to pay up to fifteen hundred for second hand un opened box at the wreckers. That is why every time I see a cheap box for sale on here I buy it and ship it over

Evo oox Yea I'm interested but the price is a concern meek auto has one for $700 and my box is at a reco place and told my box is still
Good besides the center diff and a few seals so I'm not sure wat can be done with that I'm more then happy for u to take to repair or parts
So plz let me know ASAP as I'm leaving Sydney up to Newcastle on Friday arvo thanks

Cheers Brian :)

23QOUT - The Meek box sounds like a good option for you. If it is a good second hand box thats been inspected by Mr Gears and given the all clear then you should buy it. The price is very good and he is a Mitsu gearbox specialist near you with a lot of experience.
With your current damaged box, did the shop you took it to disassemble and check it properly? Is it still disassembled for inspection on Friday whilst you're in Newcastle? If the shop gave you a prognosis without opening the box up then thats a bit of a worry and I'll need to open it to check.
As mentioned previously I was going to offer you a reduced price on my box with the trade-in if the centre diff and intermediate shaft were still good but youve confirmed that it has a blown centre. I'd like to visually confirm that the intermediate shaft and rest of the box is still OK if you're still coming up to i) sell your old box as parts; or ii) trade it in on my GSR box.

Evo oox yes the box is stripped down and fully looked at by bears gearboxs reco in st Mary's sydney any how wts my box worth
To you as is and how much would I need to pay on top of mine thanks

Jack of all.. I don't know wat u need so if this box does not go threw I'll be selling 4 parts as soon as evo oox gets
Back too me I'll let u know as I'm picking the box up 2morow morning

Just spoke to my brother who made a lot of sense. I really do need a centre diff and intermediate shaft to make it worthwhile for me to make a trade in. As your centre diff is broken and all I need out of it is just the intermediate shaft if its not damaged, then Im just getting the rest of the box as excessive Gsr parts that I dont need at this point in time. He's right lol.
You might be better off just parting out your gsr box off to members or making a WTB thread for a centre diff if thats all your box needs to put back together.
I apologise if I got your hopes up about a trade in on your box, but its not really going to give me what I need out of it. Hope you understand.

I can sell you a centre diff....not just any centre diff either

I have some cusco tarmacs...and one 4 pinion lsd centre diff.....but that is missing a pinion so is incomplete. Said in the best roll Royce salesman voice...if you need to ask how much ...you probably wont believe the reply is real

I "might" have a working gsr stocker centre diff too

Evo oox that's fair how about u take my box and I give you $800 on top my cars been sitting for 6 months now
So u can help witw that It will be great

Ill have to pass on that offer. Seriously, if I were you I would use that $800 to just buy the Meek box, or look for another centre diff and get the gearbox shop to reassemble it for whatever they will charge you.

From my side if you do the math, mine is $1200 outright for a pretty good low km box.
If you were to trade yours + $800 for mine, will mean that your gearbox will owe me $400.
Then to fix your gearbox I would need to spend a few hundred bux for another centre diff and seals and anything else it needs + my time. Say it ends up costing me $800 all up or more. Realistically more if you put a price on my labour. It wouldnt be worth me going down this path as I have been selling good 2nd hand GSR boxes for a more than fair price of $800 or cheaper for the boys to keep costs down and realistic for our community. Ive probably got to give it up due to no time to work much anymore.

A complete working gearbox is a gem. A damaged one, even if it has a couple of small problems, isnt worth much to me due to the cost of replacement parts, unless of course there is something specific inside it that is needed elsewhere. For my part at least, I would only need the intermediate shaft from it. The rest will be like having a few left handed gloves spare when all I need is a right handed glove lol.

23qout - didn't you say you could get one for $700 from Meek??
Why not buy that now that Rob can't help you out...As that seems the cheaper option AND you will have the spares from yours to sell to make your money back?? That would be my way of doing it...

Evo Gsr I'm not too sure wats up with that box u can't take anyone's word when it comes to stuff like that he reakons it's fair gearbox and I can't deal with fair condition gearbox I'm willing to take evo oox gearbox but it's a bit to expensive any how I'll just keep searching

Cheers Brian :)

^ Says it all right there.....

I thought you built these gearboxes for fun and from the kindness of your heart. NO? you've changed...

Lol. I do.... but not when it starts costing me more money, time and effort than its worth. Ive got 2 evo boxes in waiting for centre diffs and one for intermediate shaft. Unfortunately his box doesnt really have what I need except an intermediate shaft and thats why its not worth $400 to me. The rest I dont need as I already have spares and can probably make another near box up but again, short of a centre diff lol.

Jack, I have that spare part of the gearbox casing that you need all ready for postage. Cost = free... but you pay for postage obviously. Isnt that classed as kindness? Lol
