Gauges - whats best

shot baz, maybe next tax time, lol

and na the Std water gauge is fine, well I've never had a problem with one, its just how defi have their set but wideband would be good for ya when ya ready to push more power.

So thus far your gunna get boost and oil pressure and ya trying to figure out what the 3rd should be yea?

Depends on how modified your setup is.

An oil pressure gauge is all you would really want on almost any road car and even then, it's not THAT necessary. A warning light rigged up to flash if your oil pressure drops below a particular setting would be more valuable - if it flashes - immediately stop and switch the car off. The danger with gauges is you always need to take that split second to register the reading and determine if that's good or bad and by then it could be too late. A nice subtle light would be less "ricey" than a gauge too and less prone to attracting the wrong type of attention.

IMO boost gauges are a waste of time if your boost control system is reliable. You'll know if you're overboosting because the ECU will boost cut to protect the engine and if you're driving "with enthusiasm" on the roads then I highly doubt you'll have the time to watch your boost needle whiz up to how-ever-many-psi after each gear change. Boost should be a "set and forget" thing.

The less distractions you have to take your eyes off the road/track, the better.

yeah byby5l got 2 in mind, just wanted to know others imput as its interesting if theres a common set of 3 or what people think is most useful, and as i could not find any posts on this gives others who come along something to find and can tailor make there own set.

enginr very true, if im putting my foot down i never look at my gauge, more on the road in front but its amazing how quickly someone adapts, when i first got the evo i didnt have time to blink when i "got up to speed" lol and now i can take in my surroundings. good point about set and forget but its also nice to have a visual aid, its like me and typing i know where the keys are without even looking at the keyboard but when i need to know something i can look and see what/where it is, if you get my reference. and as for a small light / led is a good idea but the gauge can tell you more about the reason for te failure or where it starts. i have 3 gauges so i will replace them and keep one in the glove box for tuning reasons really lol

yea but oil pressure can indicate level, i know in the gsr when its at 40 psi it needs about 1litre when the oil light comes on it needs 2 litres!
In general gauges are an early warning thing or a diagnosis tool so they're handy to have
I'll throw my 2c behind a wideband or oil temp though i still highly recommend the defi din plus a boost gauge :) lol
either way the 3rd i think is gunna be more a space fill till ya start upping the power

True tj is talking about his evo7 so it will work on his car. But not on a e3 or earlier.
There is a gauge designer with it as well. So you can gauge anything that the ecu knows. (So not oil and fuel pressure)
They have ODB1 cables on their site:
http://evoscan.com/m...obd2-can-cables
and this lists evo I, II & 3 as supported.

but not sure if they will work with the guage app.
