Gear selector cable

So what causes the rubber surrounding on the cable to wear and eventually break causing bad shifting.

The boot around the cable between gearbox support and selector has torn off so won't go into gear. I've set up a temp solution. But what causes it?

Its probably like most shielded cables, dust and grit gets in there and overtime it works on it like sand paper. Probably should also be lubed with a special kind of lube if at all. (Just guesses)

Mmm. It has torn at the base of the boot where the clips are.

Just wear and tear over time,GSRs are over 15 years old so if its the original thats no surprise, and they are made of rubber so its made to wear..... they need to be periodically replaced
