Gearbox notichyness

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I've just done 100,000 km's on Redline Lightweight Shockproof!

Gearbox pulled apart and inspected by the dude that techsport outsources too, after 80,000km's and nothing but usual seals/gaskets had to be replaced.

So from my personal experience, I'm happy with the stuff.

I do have a bottle of MT90, for the next change I do to give it a try.

What I find with Shockproof is that once exposed to the elements (ie / air) it gets very thick and sludgey.

Not sure how it behaves in the box / sealed and constantly being heated / cooled.

I do use it in my transfer case and rear diff though... It is true that the blue blood does stick to everything!

Yes it does we've nick named it Alien Blood

Guys do you think it could be my clutch not dis-engaging enough causing my notchyness, not sure why a thrash would align it better, but was just another thought I had.

A straight line thrash doesnt seem to do much for it, but some corners and a bit of a thrash(even just 10 mins) makes it nice for the next few days.

For those who have handled SHOCKPROOF HEAVY, is it very thick?

Is it compatible with clutch type LSD's?

I'm talking diff and transfer case here.

cant say on the compatibility of "heavy" with lsd but when i used "light" the lsd chattered and banged. it was really savage so i drained it.

BMGTZ,
This was in your diff?

Would LSD additive fix that problem?

yes mate it was in my red car.......evo plate lsd. I spoke to the redline guys over here and they said "well add some fiction modifiyer a bit at a time and try it" well the friction modifer was going to cost me the same as a bottle of penrite sin oil.....guess whats in there and working great

How much was the friction modifier?
I've been quoted $21.00 a bottle.
The oil alone (4 qt) $160.00 from a shop and $108 from performancelub

some stupid amount like 40 bucks for 50ml....something like that so i thought screw that because they could actually say with certainty how much i would need.

depends on the Diffs, i had the builder put in the shockproof stuff in mine by mistake instead of the KAAZ oil. (i have KAAZ mech diffs btw incase you didnt guess)

and the diff locked up and was clunking round and making reallly bad clunking noises at low speed like shit was about to snap / fall out

put the KAAZ oil in and two corners round my block and diff was back to standard operation quiet as.

so it varys between diffs etc

I used to run redline shockproof lightweight in the gearbox and transfer/ rear diff, however I've now been using Motul FF LSD type 2, it's really good. Ppg recomended it with their gearset but it's nice in the diffs too.. Probbaly a little less plate noise with the motul.. That's with front and rear ralliart supertraction LSD's + ralliart vcu... And alot of preload on the diffs

Oh yeah they still lock up big time... They still chatter big time but it's not quite as much as with the redline... Thereason PPG dontuse redline anymore is that the had some issues with the oil frothing a not lubricating propperly... That was only with the ppg gearset however.

The only problem with the MOTUS FFS LSD stuff is that it is also GL5 which is a no no in our gearbox's but ok in the xfer and diff.

I've actually used that also.
Not cheap stuf
