if you know the gearbox was good before you installed it...with no known issues.
I think the issue will be cable related.
get someone to select third while you watch from under the bonnet.... mark the depth it engages.
then remove the cable and select third by hand.....compare depth of engagement.

What rpm are you trying to shift into 3rd?
Does it shift into 3rd OK at say 5000rpm and lower? crunch at 6500rpm or higher?
Next time you drive, give the stick a push toward 3rd gear and see what rpm it drops into 3rd gear without crunching.
Could be just normal synchro wear, or you're trying to shift at too high an rpm for the single synchro setup.

Did you try what Brian has suggested at all??
At idle? :lol: then do what Brian said and check your shift cable linkages.
Also by idle do you mean when the car is running and at idle or even doesnt shift into 3rd with the engine off?
If it doesnt shift even with the engine off/on at idle then I'd remove the shift cables off the shift linkages at the gearbox and check that the little white nylon block hasnt broken or worn out inside the linkage assembly.
After that manually try shifting through all the gears using the gearbox shift linkage on its own. That way you'd be able to tell if the problem is internal in the box or if the problem is with the shifter and/or shifter cables.
