hey all my car is going into first, third and fith and reverse and only sometimes goes into 2nd and forth is this a easy fix????
Its like its in neutral if i put it in 2nd or forth but it still goes into gear if i shift slowly :? please can anyone help me? asap
thanks guys and girls :)

had the exact same issue where it would not go into 2nd and 4th - in my case i had a stuffed shifter cable (not sure of the exact name of it) which goes to the gearbox.

sounds like a shifter cable problem, i'd take it back to the last person who worked on it (is it who I think it is?) and tell them to fix it, properly this time..........!!

lol so a car with a 100,00km motor and probably 150,000km on the drivetrain fails and you blame the last person who worked on it?

yer ok..

so they worked on your car and fixed whatever problems you have.. then you drive it away.. they fixed it what 3 weeks ago ?

lol im pretty sure i know what they will say to you... if it happened within a week or so then possibly but 3 weeks later..

you could of slammed gears.. mistreated the box/car and bent the shifter cables for all you know..

its not fun playing the blame game.

Check that the lower radiator hose is not pressing against the shift mechanism on the gearbox - I installed mine upside down first time around  and had the same issue with not being able to shift into 2nd and 4th.

lol that reminds me of my black lancer.. when i bought it the guy told me it had a slipping clutch... but turns out he couldnt get into fifth gear cos the guy put the rad hose on bakwards and when the rad hose was hot and expanded it was stopping the gear levers going forward!!! hehehhehe

good thinking shane! i totally forgot about this problem.

I sure as hell would, especially if it took them 2 years to fix my car

Especially when you've got no one to blame excpet your self!

Why do you assume you need a new cable? Have you determined it is the problem? If you are unsure yourself get someone who knows what they are looking at to check it out and see what is happening/not happening, it may be that a clip holding the cable has just popped off under the bonnet or under the centre console.

interesting concept.. HOWEVER this is what is the problem...

blake was 'advised' that his gearbox was on its way out prior to the 2litre conversion.. this being 2 years ago maybe?

guess what.. obviously the gearbox is near dead...

i dont think thats the mechanics problem if they told you that you should change/rebuild a box and you still choose to drive on it.. and then it breaks and bites you in the ass..

end.

ah ok, so you know whats wrong with his gearbox, and you've worked on his car?

nope but he rang darren yesterday and he was told the same thing.. im sure if he dug up his invoice for the conversion it would state on it that the gearbox was on its way out..

anyways im sure blake will come online and say exactly what i posted.

Jon

ok so its all sorted
it was the cable :D
thanks to darren at Afas for supplying the cable its alll good and im back on the road.

That's funny, when Darren fitted my clutch he never noted on the invoice that he did a sh!t job of fitting it, which would ultimately cause the clutch plate to tear itself apart after less than 20K kms. I tried calling him a number of times, even leaving messages explaining what had happened so he would know it was an urgent matter... No return calls whatsoever.

He also failed to note on the invoice that a sticking starter motor was causing damage to my flywheel. When asked what the noise was, and if it would be causing damage, a response along the lines of "Don't worry about it mate, it's nothing major" was given.

Quite surprising, and at the same time disappointing considering all the positives that had been said about Darren, which at the time helped with the decision to get the car there.
