I have a couple of scratches, that a retired panel beater family friend has offered to help me with on my GSR.

He mentioned that I will need paint that matches the code on the placard in the engine bay - Now this said "GF" ( i think on quick inspection only) However this two letter combo seems too short, and how does that match the paint codes in the sticky at the top of this forum ?

For the record, my GSR is that champagne silver colour (1995 model )

Where do I go to get the paint ( he suggested Dulon)? Just a repco type place, or are there specialist paint shops ? Thanks

if you take that paint code, to super cheap or autobarn or any automotive retailer they should be able to match something up, if they can't match it then some places can mix paint to match. but you have to remember that the paint they will give you is to the manufacturers original specs and your paint may have faded a little over time

Try going to the parts section of a mitsubishi dealer, i got some touch up paint from one in perth, however it was for a ce but worth a try.

ive found it better to get a match made up from like the petrol cap. We've painted panels on the evo a few times and the matches made that way are pefect. However painted a bar for a frends wrx on the weekend, and that was matched on the color code and its not right. (not cheap either)

Thanks for all the replies. Abyz, the car does appear to be the same colour as yours. Thanks for the code.

Velocity racing, I have thought of this idea. It would also take into account the fading of the colour of the years - but where do i go for this? A panel shop ? Autobarn don't have mixers do they. Only need about 500ml of paint.

yeh i got it firstly from Protec panits here in SA and also tried another place called crash supplies. But yeh look in yellow pages for crash supplies or automotive paint suppys or somthing like that..

cheers

depending on where u are in melb,
but in dandenong/keysborough there is a shop called "bodyshop paint supplies"

on the corner of princess hwy and blackburn rd theres a paint supply shop

on gladstone road in dandenong (right opposite bunnings) there is a place called "CD auto paints"

preston motors also do paints but im not sure if they deal to public

all of these places will match the colour for u if u drop them ur petrol flap
and if all them fail (for whateva reason) your local autobarn or paintmobile will be able to mix it up for u but i dont know if they will do a colour match for u

pm me or reply here if u need any extra info or have trouble finding any of these places

all mitsubishis built after about 1986 had a clear coat on them, and most other cars built from then had the same

Weird, both my J spec and my A spec were/ are white and definitely didn't have clear coats and both were/ are definitely the original factory paint jobs. There might be some clear mixed in with the final coat but there is no seperate clear coat on top of the colour to peel and flake off like it likes to on the maroon ones :D

I was going to post a smart ass reply to that but it would not be relevant to this topic.

Anyway, if you have a silver car and go to touch it up, you will have to do a fair bit of sanding and smoothing and them put some clear coat back over it to try and get it all to match. If it's only a small scratch, you might get away without it though.

no mitsubishi's white or red have clear coats

and there so easy to cut and polish to a showcar shine

clear coat is thinner than the red or white coated ones and breaks easyer too
