Im goin to heat wrap my new O2 housing. Any recommendations on a type of heat wrap material thats works best or a brand anyone has liked?

Theres cheap ceramic stuff on ebay but it seems the ceramic wraps may contain carsenogenic materials. And they stink as they burn off.

The "High Energy" brand ive seen in the shops and is also on ebay, another one on ebay as "HEAT CLEANED EXHAUST WRAP" look good but say its resistant up to 550*C, doesnt sound like enough.

Also sounds like the thinner 1.5mm stuff is easyest to wrap.

Input?

I have this brand. $40 delivered for 50M and yes its thin and (a mates used it as I havnt) its hell easy to wrap :)
PM user shadow as I bought some for him as well.....

Which of the two brands i listed did your mate use. Or the cheap ceramic stuff?
Was it good quality? Did it stink after it had been initially cured? Turn brown? Go crumbly?

Go to Lifeline and buy a real old electric blanket for $2 and pull the asbestos out of it. Won't ever get better than that!

go the high energy

when installing it drop the roll in a bucket of waterand wrap it wet.

stops the itching and stretches tighter when wrapping it B)

pffft... you've all got it wrong. You can go into any workplace and tax a fire blanket from a wall for free! JK
Why do you want to wrap your O2 housing for anyway? It'll keep the heat in and overcook your O2 sensor in no time.
If you're going to wrap the O2 housing for engine bay heat reasons, then I recommend getting a wideband controller and sensor and install it further back the front pipe, under the intake manifold area.
A good AEM wideband controller can be bought for a little under $200AU delivered these days ;)

Im heat wrapping it as im going to a 2.5 inch tube o2 housing rather than an evo one i have atm, so the stock heat shields wont fit. So i want to keep heat down. Or the alternator will have a fit. Ill also tack some nuts on incase i want to make up a heat shield from the ACL stuff and put it on later. Heat wrapping it first.

I also plan to wrap the water pipe under the exhaust manifold, and the down pipe till after the oil pan to keep heat away from it. Just to keep heat out the fluids.

Ive had a wideband for a while. Where did a wideband come into this lol?

Just when you mentioned you wanted to wrap the O2 housing, I assumed you were still using an O2 in it.
Wrapping the housing may keep the heat away from engine bay components, but it also has a side effect by deflecting all that heat that has been escaping previously, back into the housing.
This will raise the temps that the O2 sensor has to endure. Good for bringing the O2 sensor up to temperature quicker, but if you're running some good boost too you'll also have a chance of cooking the O2 sensor within a few power runs.
Its just something to keep in mind when planning to use heat wrap as people dont normally take that into consideration when applying it ;)
You can try it, but if you get symptoms of a dead O2 sensor with **** AFR's and the engine running rich, you could probably point the finger to the wrapping and consider getting a wideband kit and relocate the wideband sensor away from the wrapped area.

Hmm... my last nights reply is missing?

I got the heat cleaned one for $40 delivered! I actually bought 2... one for me and one for shadow.... you should pm him to see how he went as mine isnt on yet.

just thought i'd throw in my thoughts as i recently upgraded to a 2.5 inch dump. its true the heatshield doesnt fit but i've been running it for the last week and havent had any heat issues seems to be cooler funnily enough.

Did you wrap it or not? Might be an idea or you alternator's regulator ect might hate you for it later
