got my old e 3 exhaust in my garage but im down in geelong not sure if that'll help. if you get desperate you can borrow mine

Thanks man probably a bit far to travel, I've been quoted $200 to make up a 2 1/4 inch cat back with mufflers n everything which I'll pass the test with so I'll probably just get that then I've got it for next time I'm EPA'd lol

you could possibly even make the current one compliant (n pends if it's just noise or emissions there some prety ingenius ways to keep flow and pass emissions now.

Well it got done for noise and when I got it tested it made 101dB on back off. Its a 3inch TBE, It has some kind of a hot dog muffler and a magnaflow rear muffler and it didn't even have a cat until I bought it and put A hiflow in. I don't know if putting another muffler on will bring the noIse down to legal 90dB...the guy at the exhaust shop doesnt think it would.

I have a 2" system with highflow cat and evo8 muffler. Don't really want to sell the muffler but the cat and pipe u can use :) I'm in melbs :) cat is only 8 month or so old

Shove another resonator in it and get a ceramic cat, also if u have a cannon? get rid of it and get a standard 3" muffler

My mate did all the above and just passed on back off

Bloody oath it will, i passed with the varex closed :)

Only prob is the testing facility dont approve the Varex lol

Ahh that's bollocks! Aholes don't like to make life easy for us do they! Would be good if there was a varex centre muffler or resonator then they wouldn't know.

i should elaborate. the varex will queten it down ALOT to the point of sounding almost stock. problem is they arn't technicly legal as they can be adjusted from silent to loud. so unless it passes with the varex in the full loud position it won't get passed. problem with that is if it's going to pass with the varex in it's loudest position there no real point in getting a varex. unles you wana fly low with the po and shut up your ride around the cops to avoid being issued another epa!

Thats what i do lol, well main reason was for my neighbours when i come home late from out in town, i used to get blown up lol

The new Varex setup is adjusted through RPM range, so you dont need to control it from in the cabin

Or do what i do, have a hidden on/off/on switch and say it cannot be adjusted from inside the cabin, needs to be manually done lol

if you get a varex, cut the tips off..... replace with a straight pipe and let it rust a lil

and spray the whole thing flat black....

they wont know...

other wise, you can get someone to make a bolt in adapter that can install between the cat and the CBE's flanges, that shrinks it down to around 2.25" for around 5" length or more..... its what Greddy/HKS/tanabe/etc do inside there upgrade exhausts to keep the noise levels down...

I agree get a piece of tin punch a 1 7/8th inch hold in the centremark out the bolt holes and slip it inbetween the bolt up flange.

very cheap fix to your problem.

you can use an existing gasket as a templet.

A mate was telling me to do that! Not a bad idea actually...might look into it.

I've got an 'EPA special' catback, which will guarantee 82dB at the testing facility :D enquire within if you want to borrow mate.

Regarding painting your varex black, inserting a buffer/plate etc... usually EPA consists of taking the noise reading as well as looking through the exhaust system (ie car is on ramp etc and mechanic inspects full exhaust from turbo back).

Unless they're complete retards, they will notice any 'temporary attenuation' haha.

Best go with a dedicated pea shooter to guarantee first pass every time!

If you putting in restriction plates with holes punched in them at your flanges, and you think they will notice them, why not cut them a few mm smaller in diameter than the outside of the flanges so they don't stick out and use lots of exhaust goo. If they are hidden behind the goo they wont see it.
