Gravel Rally Gallangowan

Ross, was that a pacenoted stage?

Also, that camera position is AWESOME. You rarely get to see rally cars for more than 4 or 5 seconds, let alone 20!

G'day.
No it was a roadbook event, but had a chance to sus that corner before the start as it went past the service park. The location is Gallangowan State Forest oval. There was once a thriving foresters camp there, 14 odd houses, tennis court and golf course. We have the service park there, 3 spectator points to walk to and cold beer across the bar if spectating. Fun event as we camp there o'night as well.
Coming down across the service park it is a fat piece of road from gravel to sandy to bitumen to blue metal to bitumen to gravel. The VR4 loves it...
And the vid was taken from our service spot....

**** hot. i have only raced my vr4 in khanacross's but will be stepping up next year to rallysprints and rallies in NQ.

Way better for the spectators than any of the vicrally stages. All ours are so tight and freaking twisty you can't see ****. Either that, or the straights -all- go up and down over crests which limits your view too :(

Entaran. I know it is a shitful long way from Vic. You should get up here sometime for a look at the event. We can fit you up with a bed and transport out there. But not back {joke}. O'night camp. Hot as Hades, humid then storm, then cool night. Cheers Ross

Actually I could never live in Qld. I'm more likely to head towards Antarctica than the equator. Hot weather + me = fail.

When's the seasaon run Ross? Like from what month to what month? Any highlight races?

Typically, we have rallies from February through til late November or very early December.
Next year looks to be a bit of a smorgasboard for rallies up here (certainly the healthiest that it's been a for quite a while) depending on whether you want to run championship stuff or the smaller, cheaper (and usually more enjoyable) events.

Gallangowan is always fairly popular as it's the last rally of the year and it's a bit of a tradition. It really is a great setting with all the service park down in the oval with the rallying going on up in the surrounding hills. It's definately on my list of events to do next year (along with a million others).

G'day.
If you look on the morass of crap detail that is the CAMS site you could possibly find a calender to see when rallies are run in Qld.
Cheers
Ross :p

Event calendar here:

Check the www.bscc.asn.au and the above regularly cause dates change very often.

Craig, I don't know of anyone that is running rallysprints that do not require a full cage. Your best best for your car, as it is, is autocrosses out at Willowbank (check here for events http://iwmac.org.au/?page_id=49.
Or, another option is the Khanacrosses out at Kingaroy and Murgon run by the South Burnett car club I think it is.
GoldCoast Tweed Car Club also have some interesting events which you might be able to compete in (and they are closer to you).

You would have to update your car to include the safety requirements for the different events (triangles, fire extinguishers, first aid kits etc) and make sure to fully read the Supp regs for each event as different events have different requirements.

rob my car is going to get it's cage in the next 2 weeks and will be getting a fire ext at the same time,

i'm going to the next GCTC meeting to meet the guys and see what is around my area. also doing the track attack hill climb at mt cotton on the 21st

Once you car is caged, send all the forms away to CAMS and get the cage certified and the car log booked.
There are some short rallysprints being held this year that you will then be eligable to do. They would be a good starting point for you once you get a CAMS clubman rally licence and find someone silly enough to sit beside you.

If you can though, try to do some autocrosses and khanacrosses before doing your first rally.

I would also pay to go along to a few rallies, help out as a road block, service for someone and hang around the rally HQ and the controls so you can get a little idea of what goes on at a proper rally.
