Hi guys,

Might be of interest to some:

http://www.evolutionoz.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=20976

For those who are not members of evolutionoz:

"I have an E2, and the lower lip on the front bar has seen better days.

I have found a fibreglasser and have offered my lip to use as a mould. However he doesn't think there is much interest in them. If I can muster up at least 10 orders he will go ahead with it.

Price would be $150 each. I am not sure on postage costs at this stage for interstate buyers.

Pick up would be possible in Melbourne (South East).

I will need a $50 deposit for each lip ordered and all deposits will need to be in before production commences. I expect 2-3 weeks max turnaround. "

Well you are right... but you would need to be aware of it.

My past rides have included an insanely low Cefiro with full fibreglass kit, my driveway was not the smoothest incline and survived fine. Also had a lowered Silvia and 180SX no kit, but very low - managed fine. I can keep going...

My point is - if you are careful and concious of you kit there is no reason it won't hold up.

My E2 is slightly lowered and on only a few occasions have I had to make an effort to avoid it scraping.

As good of an idea as this is. How strong would it be being bolted on? I can see it snapping at these points.

If he puts alloy to reinforce this section, will make it stronger, But would probably break the lip to bits.

Having said that. It probably wouldnt be to much different from have a Fibre E3 front bar (Had one, it broke. Had to keep fixing it)

How hard would it be to get a plastic place to remanufacture these? Injection mould them?

I would be interested but I already have a plastic one!

Really tho I don't kno why everyone says they wont last, it is quite simple don't hit shit with it, be aware that it is there and it will be fine.
Also this price is quite a bit less than a new plastic one...

Would they come as raw fibreglass or all finished and painted black ready to bolt on for the $150?

Thanks Richard - my sentiments exactly.

It would be raw fibreglass.

So you can either paint it black or colour code, as you choose.

And let's face it... I'm not talking rice rockets here... most E1-3 and many other evos for that matter that I have seen are not sitting on the floor!

Haha you guys......

I'll put bets on that the majority of these fibreglass lips wont last 12 months.

excuse my ignorance but is a oem one rubber?

they're plastic

also i think where the lip joins onto the bar will need to be strengthened with extra fiberglass as i recall when taking off my lip, there's not much material around there, and if it was fiberglass one simple scrape or hit will rip it right off.

if its made with 2layers of glass i would agree;

otherwise if it's quality made with 5+layers and the owner is a careful driver I dont see why they wont last for a long time.

A good group buy IMO. good luck with it.

Are they gonna be done three piece like the standard ones? I like having access to my tow point

there is no way the fibreglass lips would be that thick. thats like 5 times thicker than you dodgey fibreglass kits. if people were making kits that thick all those fibre glassing businesses would have folded already

4 layers isnt really allll that thick...its more got to do with how its layed up.

u have to make sure all the air (or as much as humanly possible) is forced out when laying up ur part.

where do you think carbonfibre gets alot of its strength from? they are vacuum bagged so every last bit of air is sucked out and they are one peice. not to say the carbon fibre material itself isnt strong im just saying its a contributing factor.

and im not saying the lips will be that strong i just thought i would throw another side to the "weak fiberglass" subject out there and show people that this stuff isnt exactly "weet-bix" like some people portray it to be

Thanks for all the positive comments, and yes I do agree with some of the doubts. But I will say it again that if you are aware that you have a lip fitted then I think you will manage fine.

I am not 100% certain of the number of layers, though I do know the skirts I bought from him are thicker than a lot of front bars I have seen getting around.

These are not cheap Chinese offerings - they are in fact made locally.

But if no one is interested then I guess I will also be missing out

Might try and get a genuine plastic one down from JP.

Cheers guys.
