grr.. got a nasty sound coming from the front of the galant... i think its the water pump.. anoying part is its not even 15000 k's old.. soz for makin a new thread but i needed to vent.. getting a bit sick of onething after anther givin me problems

If it's not the water pump, could it be the harmonic balancer?

mines doing the same thing, for me its the timming cover rubbing on the harmonic balancer, it sounds terrible too

its more like a bearing growl sound too me... and it has come on pretty quick.. can also see a bit of a wobble in the pulley on the water pump but that could always be its not quite straight as a cant get any movement out of it when its not running...

If you have time, jack up the LHS front and pull off the wheel / the plastic cover and have a good look.

i didnt rebuild it... split a heater hose and cooked the old engine but i needed the car so i bought a running cordia with 63 conversion and stole the motor out of it.. had it back on the road in a few days.. but i did put new water pump and timing belt on so i didnt have to wory about it..

had a mechanic have a listen today.. he said deff something there.. either the water pump or mebbe a timing belt idler

the old engine will get a stroker in it eventually and go back in... if i dont crack the ***** with it in the mean time

Ah then I doubt the new waterpump has died in the meantime. Yeah its most probably the timing belt rubbing inside the plastic lower cover. Unbolt the the top timing belt cover off and see if there is any evidence of wear on the side of the belt.

if you didnt change the idlers when he pump and belt were done i would be more inclined to think that,

True that too ^^ . Its a good habit to fit a full timing belt kit and waterpump whenever you get a chance to! (oh and test the hydraulic auto tensioner)
