What're people doing for LSDs in their GSRs?

Obviously there's the evo option, but I don't want the shorter ratio. I always hear about people rebuilding evo diffs with GSR ring gear to keep the taller ratio - has anyone got any experience with this? Costs, etc.

Consider the cost of second hand evo diffs, and that I'll only be using the centres, maybe I'll be better off buying a kaaz/cusco item? Has anyone used these in a gizzer?

Steve

seen some for $1000 for kaaz diff 1.5

but im also keen on findind out what ppl have done

well im yet to confirm what Jarred has told me but...

I believe if you take out(just the diff centre) of an evo 3 and take out JUST the gsr diff centre and put the evo3 one in you dont need to do the crown wheel/pinion/shafts etc... To keep the right ratios because the ratios are not changed?

Once again need confirmation and explination Jarred

Spot on. Factory EVO LSD or Aftermarket LSD will go into GSR no problem. You will need to adjust backlash and bearing preloads.

Thankyou Brett! :D
You are another tech guru that we need to pick more brains out of :p

Got some more info on that? manuals etc...? Sims/shim size etc... Specs?

Thanks

Thanks Brett !

I thought the ring gear was attached to the center, I have NFI about diffs. Does that hold true for the front and rear?

Greenline have Cusco diffs for about $800 which is cheaper than most second hand evo diffs I see advertised, so I might grab one of them.

rear is a swap over as said above, the front requires some machining and cutting to get an EVO lsd into the front.

I had mine water cut and ground so it would take the EVO centre on the GSR CP. The PCD is different on the front LSD to the GSR

rears are much much easier.

Hey Brett....over the 1/4 mile, how much should one expect to gain with just a rear lsd installed??
0.100 sec? 0.200? :) None? :(

Assuming that i can get an E3 lsd

Dan(Gsrsol) :p

Yup, as allready mentioned. Grab yourself an Evo II or III (or Evo I RS) Mechanical LSD centre and have it fitted to your GSRs housing, CW and pinion. This way your stock Axles will slot into the splines and are the right length. All Evo II and III's had the plate type/mechanical LSDs along with Evo I RS's (Evo I GSRs had crappy viscous LSDs)

If you happen to get a GSR Viscous LSD or Evo I GSR viscous LSD you will need the axles that go with it. The viscous LSDs are pretty average though, especially when they're tired and have a lot of kms on them.

Thanks guys.

What're the condition of 2nd hand evo LSDs generally like? Do the plate type 'wear' like viscous ones do?

Generally I see them going for $900 or so (though I notice CVAP have them for $650 atm), so I'm probably better off with a 1.5way cusco for $1000?

They do, but unlike the viscous types they can be reshimmed to make em tight again. You can also restack the plates to make them uber tight and agressive (yay for sideways)

Theres now way in HELL i'd pay anywhere close to $900 for an Evo LSD. Last one cost me $250NZ I wouldn't pay more than $350 myself.

damn you and your NZ prices

flying over on the 13th sept and returning 1st Oct

i'll be every where in the south Island.

I wouder how much freight is? bringing back as hand luggage would be difficult. They would probably think is was a bomb!

Opps there you go ASIO the red flags have gone up, They'll be knocking on my do tomorrow.

Good luck finding one in the south island. Its the same as saying your going to Tasmania to find some evo front cuts. Your better off in the north where 95% of all the imports are.
