as the heading says can i put a full gsr drivetrain ie box, transfercase and diff in my VR4? and if i cal will i have to change much?

i only ask cause this i am sic of not being able to use 1st gear in my vr4 and i have a possible lancer gsr doner car in my garage.

Why can't you use first gear?

The gsr gearbox will bolt into the vr4 - you may need to also use the gsr transfer case, depending on the splines.
gsr box is 3.545 ratio same as vr4.

gsr rear diff won't bolt into the vr4 (rear subframe is completely different) and there's no point in doing so anyway.

i dont know why the box wont go in first, ive tried adjusting the selector linkage. it will only go in first when the car is moving. so the only way to get it in first gear is to put it in as im rolling then park and leave it in gear. if i try to take it out and put it back in it pops out when i go to take off.

but it dosent jump out of gear when i do it while im driving. if i leave it in first and stop. i can take off again and its fine as long as i dont take it out once ive stopped.
if it is intermediate bearing im guessing there is no way to rectify it without pulling box down?

Not really, but it could also be a number of other things. Easist way to check would be to pull the box apart.
As Squid said, the GSR box will fit fine but you wil ned to check the output shaft spline count to see which transfer you will need to use.

There are a couple of differences from what I recall.
1-2 selector hub and slider is slightly different I think but not a lot other than that. It does look like whatever parts are different could just be swapped between the 2 boxes anyway from the last one I saw torn down.
If you do start changing stuff in the box remember that you will need to put in new bearings and re check the preloads again too.
