I have coil on plug system in my evo 3. It had a tacho as well as the standard cluster but tachos have stopped reading revs? I have since removed the after market tacho but standard tacho still no longer works.

I cant remember exactly but i do think it stopped going when the COP was installed,

Any ideas? Any way i can test or where i maybe able to tap into it? The after market tacho was spliced into wire 31 i think it is and used to go but then as said both stopped.

Any help will be appreciated :)

It's been a while since I've fiddled with that. Doesn't the Evo cluster run off the ecu whilst say a vr4 runs off the coil pack.

Do that tells me there is something wrong with the cluster, or the standard wiring

If your in melbs pop by coz I have a spare cluster you can try :)

Ha ha. Well we should build a tunnel to nz imagine the views.

Maybe try re fitting cluster. Not likely but worth a try. Maybe the connection has come loose. If mine isn't screwed down hard enough it won't work, because it eventually wiggles loose

Going from memory Evo 1-3 and GSR run the tacho feed directly from the Ignitor, it should have its own pin saying "tac". I would say you are running waste spark still because your running two factory ignitors and factory ecu I assume? You will just need to wire up the tach feed from one ignitor only.

I had a look at some wiring diagrams for this COP and some of the DSM guys are running 1 ignitor triggering coil 1 and then in series to coil 4 and the same with 2 and 3. Does anyone know why you would do this and how it actually works?? It would be 6v to each coil and still waste spark???????????

Its running a G4 Link ecu, I also read the tach is taken from the igniter also. So sounds as if i need to find the tach wire(31pin) and see if its still coming from atleast 1 igniter right?

You need to check if its running direct fire or waste spark. Is it a G4 Atom, Storm, Extreme or Evo plug in? I would almost bet it will be direct fire. Just run a tacho feed from the ecu to the cluster (Just use the original tacho wiring and cut into it at the ecu). If you are on an Atom and have fuck all outputs you can probably make it work from both ignitors with 2 diodes (if runing direct fire). Where in NZ are you and who's doing the tuning out of interest?
