I have searched this, just wanted to confirm though, I don't particular want to make my own, as I tend to break shit,

Though many people said the ebay proton ones fit?

as in this one here will fit my GSR?

Thanks for the help in advance :)

orig bushes should fit. i've got a similarly designed one made for satria m21 outra etc(proton) and i just bought some nolathane suspension bushes for a commy . and took to them with a belt sander until they were the right size to fit done it on 2 of my 3 lancers and no complaints

Im also using this one.

I would highly recomend getting new genuine bushings for it though as the existing ones are worn out and will give you that loose floppy feel to it which defeats the purpose of getting a new shifter does it not. :)

You will thank me with what a huge differance new bushings will make.

yeah there some on ebay

but as you've read a few of have ghetto ed bushes from other things and tbh my option of nolathane or ian with garden hose are both stronger and will likly last longer than oem bushes. i've also heard of them being made of a coke can coiled up

haha nice, i might have to have a play around then. also is there any tricks to getting the square gear boot off, have given it a good pull but feel like im going to break something before it just pops off haha

or do i need to take the hole console off in one?

Yep, whole console comes off, and it pulls through the bottom, and the knob comes off first.
There is 2 screws down on side of footwell, 2 in the centre console compartment and a couple under the plastic below the ash tray, and under the little coin area in the middle.

How to replace lancer gsr gaiter and get access to shifter.

There are two gold screws in the center console compartment under the lid at the bottom.
There is a screw under the cap, which is under the handbrake in the small rectangle area, you need to pop off the cap off, then remove the black screw.
The plastic tray in front of the gearstick/under the ash tray pops off, use a flat tool or screwdriver, then there are two gold screws there, remove them.
There are also two screws on the side of the plastic where your feet go past. I can't really explain it, the center console is like one long piece and clips onto the other center dash plastic
And you'll need to remove your gear knob, if its a genuine one, it should just un-screw anti-clockwise, if its an aftermarket one, its probably screwed onto the shaft and you'll need an allen key set.

I think thats it. I pulled it out two weeks ago to put an after market gaiter and I've already sort of forgotten.

I think I had the gear in neutral or reverse to "lift" the center console up, to clear the shifter.

thanks rory and lefty, pretty spot on,

as for the sloppy shifter i too cut of a section of garden hose and managed to slide it inside the shifter, had to hollow out the inside of the hose a little to fit back on but now is nice and snug but lose enough to move forward an back, great ingenuity Ian91 :)

hey if it works and works well and save you cash why not? people have found that their shifter is sloppy again after just a year.

if after doing your shift bushings you still find the shifter a little sloppy get these

i put some in my coupe recently and the different in made to the shift is amazing zero play and very very direct. this combined with the bush mechanic fix. and i've got a nice solid shift that rivals a through the floor into the trans shifter.
