Hey all,

My car is heading to the painters in a few weeks. It's a Gsr Lancer with a full fibre glass E3 kit. All fits well except the front bar may need some love to fit perfect.

Question is what are the body differences between a gsr to an Evo? as i've heard people mention that front guards are different. Anything else?

Cheers gents,

Sean

Whats different between the Guards?

Guards flare out more on the evo 3.

There are so many differences that you cant really see between the two.. the chassis on the evo 3's were strengthened (e.g. firewall has been strengthened where clutch is to stop firewall flex and cracks, V brace in the back seats etc..)

the evo's also have a rear window wiper, amber front indicators, fog lights on the boot.

do you want to know the exterior differences only?

Yeah was just interested in trying to set it out as close to an Evo, before it gets painted. I think i know what you mean about the e3 guards now. More importantly the front end.

What do you think the chances are of sourcing Guards and a Genuine Front bar?

Maybe even do some custom guard and front Bar mods, Like the Fat front front end you can get in the UK.

Hi,

two of the most important braces on Evos are the left and right side gussets that go around the front strut tops . Mitsubishi call these 'gusset, fender shield, LH and RH'. and the part numbers are MB959157 (LH) and MB959158 (RH).

Tim (missile) tells me that GSRs with Evo conversions that don't have these gussets welded on will get body work cracks. BTW, these gussets are only found on CD9A and CE9a Evos.

Travis (sivart) might be able to source you a pair.

Cheers,

Peter D

Correct I've also got a spare set removed from A EIII Frt cut I welded in my gussets when it was still 1.8ltr ie years ago, and yes a gsr without them will eventually crack in this area if a 4g63 has been dropped in, if it hasnt its just a matter of when not if

yeh ill back that up ricey as iv had a coupe that had this happen and TOY is starting to crack too:(

Plus another 2 lancers in newcastle with cracked firewall

You can easily tell the difference between an evo and a gsr with an evo lookalike kit, main 1 would the front bar, evo3s have a removable front lip, fibreglass bars are generally 1 piece

The front Bar will be the hardest thing to find.
May take you quite a while, unless you order brand new from Mitsubishi which will cost you alot.
The rest is all pretty straight forward, guards are everywhere, and any guards from Evo 1-3 will fit.
