Gunk in catch tank?

I cleaned out my catch tank for the first time in a year and discovered this sludge at the bottom.

The oil coming out was black as expected, then towards the bottom it was a thick white sludge.


Anyone out there got a clue what this is from?

believe its a petrol oil vapour build up smells bad too yeh?

No smell at all.

But I have been informed that this is an oil/water emulsion

Perhaps condensation from heating, cooling, heating,cooling has added to the oil to give you the milk sludges...

If the rest of the oil was dead black then I would suggest condensation forming on the inner walls of the can, then moisture getting in with the oil and turning it to sludge.
