wow looking at all that damage i can almost say its going to cost 4k min to bring it bak to its formal glory! thats a whole lot of damage!

Heard an evo 8 in rowville got written off from the damage, according to the chick on the phone at just cars.

Was just wondering, if the assessor comes out and says its a write off because its too exy to fix, am I able to take things off the repair list I dont want repaired? Such as the spoiler? (was going to get rid of it anyway......)..

mythbusters acutually did that test and it makes a diference baz

sorry to see what happend to the car.. heart breaking,

and squiddy, chances are taking things like that off wont make a difference.. you could however keep the car and get payed out and then fix it yourself

Ive heard a lot of assesors are writing off cars instead of repairing them, then giving owners the option of buying them back at a reduced price rather than repairing them. Anyone else heard similar stories?

Yep have heard a few stories about what you mention... Could be an explosion of parts on the market soon!!

now that you mention it, it does seem to go faster...

To quote the Simpsons - "theyre speed holes. They make the car go faster".

Guys, Ive got the assessor coming on tuesday. Im not sure how this kind of thing works, Ive only made a couple of claims before and went through the recommended repairer....

The quote for my car is around 9k and Im concerned theyll say its too high and either write it off or worse - take it to the makeshift spray works theyve set up in port melbourne.

Do I have a legal entitlement to say, "no I dont want to use your repairer" or "can I have a second opinion?"

sorry squiddy but apparently they have the choice of repairer, if they write it off ya can buy it back, fix it ya self, sure ya could do it cheaper than 9k, is it agreed or market value??
but id have the stereo an all the bolt on goods off just in case they write it off an take it, had a car written off before an i couldnt take nuthin off...at all, not sure if they'll take it straight away but i wouldnt be finding out the hard way, good luck mate

Fwock.

are you with justcars?

if you are, you will get need to get three quotes from places JustCars reccommends. then you have the option of getting a quote from a repairer of your choice. they end up picking the cheapest one of course.

if it is going to cost more then half the agreed value of the car chances are, JustCars will just write you off.

and don't worry about taking off parts or your stereo system. they don't check that much, they just assess the where the damage is.

imo with older cars like ours its better to buy it back and sell off parts OR fix it yourself. but remember it will be a repairable write off and you will need to get a VIV to rego it again. alot of headaches!

oh i just read your previous post, you have an evo 7? if they've actually quoted you, chances are you'll be okay.

Just cars originally said 2 quotes, one from a recommended repairer and a repairer of my choice. When I phoned them the next day to get a list of panel beaters they said the volume of calls and claims was so high I only had to get 1 quote from my repairer.

My panel beater has chosen a few items I dont think theyll pay for, such as 2k for a new genuine evo 8 spoiler....

I was going to take it off anyway and stick a lip on.

Update -

Assessor came this morning. Agreed that my quote was fair. $500 excess and away we go!

Im pleased with the result of not having to go through their repairer and the car not being written off, seeing as I only bought it last august.
