Gday all, quick speil. running a 4g93t blah blah with haltech e8.

atm my car needs to "prime" the fuel system for some reason for it to start, ie i goto ignition and i the fuel pump starts pumping , if i try and start when this is happening well nothing happends just turning turning. If i wait about 1min till i hear the fuel pump stop priming and start it works everytime.

Is this the pump playing up or just the settings on my haltech?

also i was able to connect to the haltech before using my laptop and a 9pin seriel to a usb connector just fine. Updated firmware and now she wont register. I also updated my haltech software to 1.11 which seems to be the newest. Could it be my cable from haltech to laptop is bad? ie need a highspeed bus i have no idea..

Let me know

Do you have dodgy connections at the rail and the tank as well!!! Tch tch.

It doesn't matter where you put the gauge, anywhere between the pump and the regulator.

Could also be a leaky injector (but your car will be making engine oil slowly)
Or leaky injector o'rings.

Remember that there is nearly 50psi in the rail, so a electric oil gauge would suit.
Be extra careful with a tube style gauge as any leak would introduce fuel into the cabin of your car. (ie. Don't drive it at all with gauge connected)

Did you wire ithe haltech fuel pump output to the fuel pump or to the main relay?

If you went to the fuel pump, change it to the main relay instead. I've got notes somewhere but the car i was working on had the same symptoms.

Aaaaaa no idea ill have to play the wiring game . No idea about colours either since no manuals but ill try trace the wires back from the pump and see

why would you go to the MPI?
the ECU has a fuel pump output
even if you are using the plug and play loom you still wire it to the pump via a normal relay

if you us a prolific USB - serial converter it works no problems you just need to take note what com port it is emulating (on the pc)
and then choose that com port on the halwin software.

O you have a E8 so you dont use ECU manager!!!!! you use HALWIN http://www.haltech.com/downloads-2/previous-products/ halwin 1.89v E8
if you are using the ECU manager it wont see the E8.

you can set prime time for the pump 3 - 4 secs is all you should need for 43psi of pressure
if it takes longer than that you have another issue in there.
also make sure the idle stepper motor is open enf in the idle control on initial startup (halwin) as if you dont have enf air in bypass it wont start properly.

that goes for cold start and warm start idle control.

seriously it is very simple! it shouldn't be that hard.

okay well to start, the halwin i downloaded for some reason has no install.exe or run.exe file... so how to i even open it lol

yeah that part is shit!

I struck that one myself

I have a laptop with xp on it and it lives in the car as the tuning computer.
the ps series works on 64bit win7 but i still use the XP laptop for the tune

if you are using win7 64 bit you can creat a XP emulation mode it is a bit of rooting around getting the USB-serial to work but it can be done (I have done it)
but I found it laggy

if you are serious about tuning it yourself - buy a 2nd hand lappy and install XP - nothing else loads quick! put your halwin on and serial drivers
if you want to go all out - fit it with a static drive and then when you hit the brakes and the laptop slides of the seat and hits the floor you wont destroy your HD and data!

dont forget to flash the default firmware to suit E8- key off - then flash your map to the E8

and Halwin is the software you will be using.
v1.89

If you have problems with program's and 64 bit computers try one of two things

Set the program properties to run in 32 bit mode
Right click the program properties and there should be a check box for 32/64 bit or you can set it to run in a legacy mode of windows like xp

Or go online and download oracle VM mechine it from the same people who make java. What the vm mechine software does is allows you to run a virtual computer inside your native operating system. It adopts most inputs and outputs so you might be able to use that to run the program the way it should

yeah jetgsr right , tried to run in 32 bit on my work laptop and nothing no signal , got another old laptop put on 32bit xp and walah!

it has something to do with porting the usb to the emulator so the prolific drivers can see the ECU

I got it working but like i said too laggy for live tuning.

a bare bones XP lappy is perfect. you dont even need to update it!

good luck .. if you need a hand just drop a post and I'll see what i can do.

next 2 weeks are crazy in my world though.

Win7 & 8 32bit both works with Halwin 1.89 just open the SerialComm.INI file located in c:\program files\haltech\haltech v1.89 and modify it
This is what it looks like when open.
[Port]
PortName=COM1
BaudRate=12
DataBits=3
StopBits=0
Parity=0
FlowControl=2

modify PortName-COM1 only see below, make the COM port number the same as the USB to serial adaptor com port number 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, etc
[Port]
PortName=COM4
BaudRate=12
DataBits=3
StopBits=0
Parity=0
FlowControl=2

For some reason when you change com port in Halwin running under Win7 or Win8, Halwin will not modify this file (to do with permissions).
