i am about to do a 4g63 install, vr4 with a haltech e8

would you reccomend the plug an play loom, and also do i retain my old ecu?

if not where am i plugging the loom for the dash, i just relly dont understant how to haltech tells the rest of the dash whats goin on]\\

any tips or hints would be great

this could help you..

first i would go with the plug and play loom it plugs straight in to ur VR4 loom.
u take ur VR4 ECU out and plug the haltech loom into the VR4 loom it plugs right in if u have the right one, then u plug the haltech loom into ur E8.
if you go this way u can use all factory sensors and plugs in the engine and it in all plugs in.
the E8 also has pin outs for other things so u can just run a wire as u need it.

second the dash has its own loom as the rest of the car wiring it has nothing to do with ur ECU or its loom, ur ECU only controls your engine and its sensors thats it, unless u have a haltech dash or race pack dash then that plugs into ur ECU and will read all ur engine data.

hope this help u a bit mate all the best,

As above is correct.
You get your speed from the gearbox (mechanical cable)
You get your RPM from your coil pack
You get your water temp from its own sensor
You get your oil pressure from its own sensor
Everything else basically has its own sensor

The only thing the stock ecu gives you is Check Engine which the haltech should give you also depending on how it is wired.

Plug and play loom would be the easiest.but be careful, because i got a plug and play loom with a haltech e6x off ebay. The setup off ebay was cheap but the plug and play loom was for a skyline rb20 motor, but i only wanted the main haltech plug as I already had a breakout loom at home.

The point of the story is that when i opened up the main plug of the breakout loom, only half of the wires are there. For example injectors were doubled up in batch fire mode so only three injector outputs were wired off the main plug for a 6cyl,and no wires for all the extra PWM outputs. These outputs can run anything from antilag to your thermofans and even boost control. But the wires arent there.
Maybe it was just this one that was like that and the E8 will probably have a better plug and play loom than the e6x ,but if you ever want to add on extra controls then it might be a problem with the plug and play loom.
So bottom line ,if your not electrically inclined then plug and play loom.if you want to add things later and really muck around then breakout loom.
as for the dash the vr4 temp guage comes in i think at the plug under the airflow meter as well as the oil light which is separate from the computer loom.tacho will still work as long as original ecu loom stays in the car.
