Hi all I've done some searching and didn't really find much info on what I wanted so figured I make a post.
basically pros and cons to running a haltech or running a evo 7 ecu. thanks in advance

thats about it also depending on which haltech you go for features. the evo 7 will retain knock control only the elites offer that.

My car had an old haltech in it when I bought it. Due to some dodgy loom by the previous owner and some serious significant performance upgrades I'm going a new haltech and fresh engine loom by AM Auto very soon. I think if the loom was still factory I would have gone the E 7 option due to is affordability. I think josh is looking ad doing this option to his gsr in the near future.

What do you want the ecu to do?
Decide that and it will make the decision easy.
The factory ecu is extremely capable of most things if you have a good tuner.

im going to eventually change to e85 and might do a few more mods to gain more power. im getting another engine harness so figured while its out of the car would be easier to change the plugs if I go evo 7 ecu but haltech have a patch loom for Platinum Sport 1000.

The bit i dont know much about is the bin and roms for each.
to my understanding you need like a fully defined rom (or bin) to get full tunability and access to all factory features, and extras.

eg. Say 'boost control by gears' maybe you want this, but it needs all tables defined esp bcs duty and whatever else affects it- temp, tps...
these def tables may only be sorted out in a few roms in a couple of evo ecus, so boost by gears will need a specific evo ecu and a specific bin.
I think the newer (evo 7 up) have had the benefit of the usa guys defining them so should have more features enabled.

Aparently a mob has sucessfully modded a factory ecu for use with flex might be worth looking into else for flex id go haltech

8 and up can use flex sensor. My tuner has even made up a display to show a few different things.
So no need for haltech, just for flex sensor.

Rocco...just get a 5/6 ecu..can dual map this too and use speed density...the wiring side is much easier than a 7 8 or 9 also.

TME in NSW have got the Evo7 and 8th Gen VR4 ecus running with flex, using a chip that converts the signal to an input.

Haltech has alot of safety features that make it superior to factory ecu for anything that makes good power. We try to run oil pressure, fuel pressure and air fuel ratio fail safes in all haltech cars we do now. In my daily gsr im going e8mr ecu real soon on a flex sensor and speed density only because im a tight ass.
