Hey guys i have adjusted the cable on the break and althou the leaver is stiffer, it actually works less now.

Any Idea on how to adjust the hand break properly?

I took of the rear wheels and found that the cable is actuating? but no breaking force,.

At this stage i am assuming that the pads may be worn out..

you adjust the handbrake by winding out the pistons in the calipers until tight. just use a grinding wheel tool to wind it in and out

Update..

So i bought a cable from CVAP (andrews service is amazing. had it delivered to my door the next day!)

I found that my handbrake was only actually working on 1 wheel, and when i investigated the cable on the passanger side was seized!

Anyway installed the cable tonight, and it was still a bit of messing around, but bled out the brakes as well.. and finally! a handbreak that can hold the car still even against the engine, (at low to middle revs)

previous to fixing this i could idle the car with the clutch out and the handbrake on full... and it would just roll

not much too it, and glad it's finally working! hopefully RWC next week and i can get my lancer on the road!

i know this is an old thread but i recently changed my discs and pads last night, now the handbrake is really loose.

did you loosen the adjustment on the handbrake lever all the way out before you wound the piston in teh caliper out?

does it matter if the car hasnt been started yet?

thanks

THATS THE GENERAL IDEA

NO

thanks
Leave the last adjustment at the hand brake handle end to set up how you want it.

I'm used to adjusting drum Brahe handbrake s and been googling how to do caliper handbrake. The only thing I can find says adjust with Allan key on caliper. I've looked at both my cb and cc and no Alan key on caliper. There is the preload spring and a bolt in the middle (springs to tight to get a socket in there.
Reading above said to twist the piston (so take caliper off. Is the right?

what i do is get all the brakes on and get a screw driver to actuate the hand brake barrel until the pads contact then set the cable and get in to adjust on the lever.

Drums are easy. Can always get them nice and tight. I'll try a bleed but my breaking is really good and solid. But handbrake is always a little sloppy an high
