So I am thinking of doing the headgasket on the VR4..

reason:

- Cooling system pressurizes
- Over Flow Bottle fills to the top
- Coolant smells a little like fuel

I Think it may be a bad headgasket as I have done the radiator cap already.

Car never over heats though. No water in my engine oil. Radiator doesnt really bubble when car is running and cap is off, but the odd bubble does come out if that makes sense.

This weekend Ill pull the plugs and check them out. But my feeling is head gasket needs doing.

So that said.. Which headgasket should I get? I have had a look at slowboyracing and there are several Cometic head gaskets. What is the standard bore size and thickness I need to purchase?

Any info would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers
Denis

Sorry link was just for informational purposes and I have bought from them before :)

Though if Meek has the right one, then i would go there..

rocket industries also do cometic gaskets. is your motor standard? if so go with the 85.5mm part number C4233-051.

It's critical that the head and block mating surfaces are perfectly flat and smooth. Take the head to get machined or at least check it and also the deck, mls gaskets need a fine RA to seal. Also make sure you follow the head stud install procedure. This is more important than what brand gasket.

^^ Running one of these.

Fucking arsehole bitch of a thing to seat and seal (it's pure copper), but don't think it'll let go anytime soon. Lost a wastegate line on run in and had boost spike clean off my 30psi gauge and it held, car had done all of 300km and there's no damage. Hasn't even been tuned yet.

I'd also talk to some of the US guys that have tried it.
Depending on boost a composite gasket and studs will be just fine.
I'm going for a Felpro mls gasket (same as hks) and L19 studs but I'm running over 35psi on mine.

My L19s and cometic gasket is holding 24psi ok. I really should up the boost. I've used hks / tomei / cometic and all seem great in quality. What determined selection were the options in bore sizes and thickness. Tomei offer 1.8mm whereas hks do not. Hks do 1.2 and 1.6 whereas cometic do 1.2 and 1.6 were hard to find at a stage. Price wise, cometic would be best value. That copper one looks great Lorry!

hrmmm.. Well.. I plan on pushing around 24 - 28psi on the SCM6152e. I also have ARP Head Studs to put in if I do the head gasket.

Maybe Ill stick to the good ol cometic gasket when I do change it....

The quality of the cometics has seemed to have dropped off a little of late, I know quite a few people have
been giving them a wide berth. No doubt they used to be the best bang for buck gasket around.

Thanks baz, it's funny because at the front drivers side corner of the engine just next to the turbo you can physically see the gasket as it pokes out from the block/head a tiny bit. They look fucking awesome in person but it was an absolute arse of a thing to get seated properly.
