Race today at Heathcote park.. drive up there and my car was fine... on my second and last pass for the day the car would not boost more then 15psi in 4th gear.. (every other gear it went to 20psi)..

ran a 12.3 @ 117.52mph...

Drove bak to the pits and my overflow bottle was overflowing with steam and cooland..

Checked my oil (dipstick and cap) they werent milky.. started the car with the radiator cap off and it didnt bubble at all.. but here is the thing that stumps me.. when i turn the car off all the water goes into the overflow bottle..

Its definately a weird one.

When the car is off...
The waterpump stops..the thermo fan stops..and the collant boils in the head and block,The pressure builds up,the cap pops and it goes into the overflow.

My car still does it when its running...it watered down the staging lines..

So its something pressurizing it alot.. could be as simple as the thermostat.

as for you Mr Jon that is a wierd sounding problem. ive never heard of a car doing that.
nissan radiators are made of plastic

sounds pretty normal

is your fan turning on?

has it got anything to do with you re-using your metal headgasket?

Well ive spoken to many of people and they told me it was fine to re-use my 3 layer ss cometic head gasket, so i did... if its got anything to do with the reusing of it.. well its lasted 8000km odd km's.. maybe i should do a leak down test.

Jon

give it a shot man,
u got a leak down tester?
if not i have one

better yet, get clause to do it, he built the motor so he'll be glad to test it

wanna sell me your seats (again)?

steamy radiator.. = leaking radiator = overheating = coolant going crazy

sounds about right? cos i have a steamy radiator..

Ill go get a new radiator.. then ill sort out the other issues.. fingers cross its only a radiator!!! (again!!!)

Jon

You sure its not a seized thermostat? That would be the first thing I would try if I dont see any loss of water from the radiator. Try taking the thermostat out and test if it opens in hot water.

Also try bypassing the heater core by connecting the heater hoses together instead of going into the firewall. You could have a small leak in the heater core too so look for signs of water inside your cabin.

Just a couple of other suggestions Jon that may or may not be your case
