Hey guys,

I have a bit of an issue with the headlights on my car.

It started happening after I got the car back from being sprayed.

in the beginning, you could turn parking bulbs on, low beam headlights on, but then when you flick the Hi-beams on, they would cut out completely, leaving just the parkers still working.

Now, for whatever reason, the Low beams dont even work, just the parkers.

the bulbs are both fine, the fuses are all fine ....

any suggestions?

What about the headlight relay and high beam fuse in the main engine fusable link box?

Did you unplug any looms or change looms during the paint job?

no changes in looms or anything ...

Ive checked that hi beam fuse and swapped it out for another so its not that...

which relay is the headlight one?

If it started happening when you had the car resprayed then chances are when they removed your loom to do their work, they've probably missed an earth somewhere when they reinstalled it.

Go over your earths - start at the fuse box in the engine bay and trace back. Most likely you'll find one that hasn't been fixed to the body. Check the 10 and 15 amp fuses in the relay box in the driver footwell and also in the fuse box in the engine bay.

If you've lost more lamp functions, then it sounds like you've overloaded and blown a fuse somewhere because of your initial problem.

The position for the relay for the headlights is written on top of the lid of the fusible link box Dan, next to your CAI lol.
Yes, actually the boys are right. I remember getting similar symptoms on a car that had a very flat battery. Ensure your battery is charged well and you have good earths!
Also unplug your black headlight plugs and have a good look at them. Sometimes they may be choked with crud or heaps of the white lithium grease type stuff, or they havent pushed them on properly during reassembly.

haha. i forget theres writing on the fuse box lid as its covered by that purrrdy aluminium shroud :p

my plugs are pretty forked ....

would it have anything to do with this plug (green and black wire)

Hmmm another thought just came to me. Check around that vacinity behind the headlights and behind the front bar for other white T-plugs. Hopefully you havent connected one of the FOG LIGHT plugs into the back of the headlight instead (if you are using an EVO loom that is).

loom is (or was) all factory GSR spec ...

havent changed any auxiliary looms apart from the main engine loom either ...

what is that plug for anyway, the one with the green/black wire?

parker black n green rad side of headlamp, If they did un plug looms to get them out of the way for spraying they have plugged in wrong plugs and or have made a previous earth not conduct because they have sprayed it nicely
gl with it

theres no globe behind that plug though. The parker bulb sits under the H4 bulb inside the main globe housing (behind the rubber seal) ?

I know in the Proton M21's its got an extra plug for the up/down motorised headlights there as those T-plugs got me fukd before during a conversion, but it shouldnt be the case with your GSR loom.

Got me fukd Dan. Start unplugging the healdights and using a multimeter on the plugs to see how much voltage they are getting.

Green & black is the wire to your parker, it is just the wiring connection, it joins to the globe inside the headlamp assy.
I'm gona say what all the other guys are saying tho, it will most likely be an earthing issue. Once there is paint over where it is meant to make contact you need to thread a tap to scratch off the paint so the bolt will make a good conection with the body. but check there is power to your globes with a test light or multimeter as well, could be a loose connection in the loom somwhere.
