HEL EVO III braided clutch line - Fault???

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

They probably thought it was a straight bolt in replacement without looking at the fittings before screwing them together.
Let's face it, it says suitable for EVO III, so people would just take it out of the packet and bolt it straight in without a second thought.

HKS lines have the same fittings as the HEL

Also the HEL lines are $100 dearer than goodridge lol

EBAY UK... $50 AU delivered for Goodridge lol...

I know HEL say its universal Mik, but its not the case on our clutch lines.
The oem clutch line concave flare is small and fits into the HEL concave flare. It's like putting a small funnel (mouth first) into a larger funnel (mouth first) and expecting it to seal better than a standard concave / convex fitting. Look at pic
When you tighten it up, it reshapes the oem steel clutch line flare backwards on itself to make it convex - which bends the metal flare and weakens it. In our case it split which we didnt notice until we unscrewed it apart and checked how good it sealed.
I know guys might use them without issues to start with, but I'd be worried if the same thing was occuring on brake lines.
I understand how their universal fitment works, but the sizing of the HEL clutch line universal flare is wrong for a GSR/EVO clutch line fitting.

Ah you guys :p

I just bought and got installed HEL brake lines... hope they're not like the HEL clutch lines.

I'll keep an eye on it anyway. Just FYI I think the front lines (EVO1-3 KIT) are longer in length than a standard GSR by 7cm or so. Not sure if its better to get a GSR Kit instead (info for others)? The rears look fine when I look underneath the car.

I checked my HEL brake lines and they are the same as the clutch, who did the installation?? did you look at the fittings before installation?

I might add I'm more concerned about the length of the Evo III lines for the fronts, I'll take a look at them over the weekend.

I thought being "EVO 3" would be the same length as a "GSR" since I was chucking on the Evo 1/2/3 twin pots (banjo fitting), however there must be something different between a GSR and EVO for the lines to be different in length.

What are the lengths of the Goodridge lines, or are they the same?

Basically I'm still curious as the whether you're suppose to get the GSR lines or EVO1/2/3, since they're banjo fittings anyway (so long as you didn't get the vr4 twin pots with the straight fitting)

**EDIT**
Btw, I measured the stock GSR brake line length over the HEL EVO1/2/3 brake lines using string, so roughly from the edge of the connector where the hose is plugged into it and the same at the other end.
The GSR ones are around 45 cm in length, the HEL ones are around 52-53 cm in length, so there's a difference of around 7-9cm in length, just FYI if anyone else is wondering.

Braided brake lines time

Can people post up pics of there braided brake lines on their car, or even pics of them off their car lol

Only asking as my kit for EVO1/2/3 has 2 sets of lines, 2 x 540mm, 2 x 500mm with a 90deg bend, im confused as the OEM lines didn't have a 90deg bend

Hey guys, been running the HEL brake cables fine so far, no probs. As I said, the fronts are a little too long and I'm not entirely sure if it would be wiser for those people to get a CC GSR kit (if they make it) since they use the Banjo Fitting as well (same as Evo3 calipers). Btw, the Goodridge lines are probably the same length as the HEL evo3 lines so not much you can do there. The braided line sort of sits inside the rim so to speak, at the fronts anyway.

Here's some pictures of the fronts. The rears I didn't take a photo, they look pretty good. Also, took a photo of the stock connector - brake line for those interested.

Btw, used Dupli-Color Red Caliper Paint and Wax + Grease Remover, came out ok, I had pulled them apart as I was getting them rebuilt anyway...also got some Mitsu writing decal if I cbf putting them on.
The rears, I just used newspaper, masked up everything and sprayed them while keeping them on the car. Came up very good as well

Why are you all buying ready made hoses? Just take your original hose to a brake joint and get them to make you some braided ones, Thats what I have done and no issues as you give them a sample and they make a new one the same. You can choose colour, They are ADR approved and they cost about $50-60....

Sometimes its hard to get shit done when you work all day and dont finish til late. Sometimes its just much more $$ efficient, convenient and less hassle, time, petrol to just buy online and have it delivered to your door ;)
Plus the guy who manages Enzed in Newcastle the last time I went was an arrogant and rude prick to me! lol

Mik_E do you have HEL or Goodridge?
I have a set of Evo 3, and Evo 8 Goodridge lines and neither of them have the bend?
