Hey guys

I have a set or forgies and chryo treated rods that were packed away in a box wrapped in rags..somehow water has gotten in the box and decided to rust the farkk out of my rods and corrode the fark out of my aluminium pistons:(:(:(

Is there anything i can do to save them? the rods aint so much of an issue as i can be a bit rougher with them, as to the pistons i tried steel wool in hot soapy water to no avail, still has slight corrosion. Maybe there is something i can soak them in?

Any ideas welcome
cheers:thumbsdown:

Polish them up!

Try some autosol or something.
As for the rods, wire brush?

Then once done, give them a spray with WD40 or CRC to protect them

the rings are seized on there pretty much, so is nasty issue tryina polish unless snap them off. need something to remove the corrosion first. Is only surface issue, but is a prick to get off.

Maybe put pics up niz, then it might make more sense what the problem is ;)

Dont try removing the rings yet. Soak the pistons in white vinegar (its an acetic acid) for a few days or diesel fuel for a week or two mate. Rotate the pistons every now and then til the rings are free enough to remove. New rings are a MUST!

Cheers guy thanks for the ideas. A old time mate of mine suggested CLR also, he does a bit of this kind of stuff. i removed the rings off one piston last night, but didnt force them off. If i can get away with only new rings ill be one happy bloke

Baz yeah thats what i was thinking aswell, maybe rub down the pistons with steel wool to get most of the corrosion off, then hit it with a high speed buffing wheel i got here, should do the trick

The rods really need a good hit with a wire wheel on a grinder

And Evo-x thanks bud ill give that a go they are in diesel as wel speak. If to no avail, hydrochloric acid anyone? lol

Possibly get an engine rebuilder /machiner to dip it in their acid solution (what they use to clean heads/blocks etc...
