Hello guys,

Finally getting around to making an intro... My name is James. I am pretty new to the car scene..

I used to own a Lancer GSR (which I am now pulling apart) and I just yesterday picked up a completely stock '87 J-spec Galant Vr4 for pretty cheap. It's unregistered and it has definitely seen better days so I'm starting to fix it up and Im gonna put it through the pits soon. It definitely needs a new exhaust (sounds like it has a hole and rattles like crazy), and some rust cleaned out as well as a good wash!

Once I've got it registered i plan on doing some basic mods like installing new intercooler piping and a new intercooler, new coilovers, new air filter, and fitting whatever else i can pull out of my GSR. Maybe later down the track ill go for a new turbo and some less practical things, but at this point in time i dont feel the need (or have the funds) to do that kind of stuff.

Cheers, James

welcome....Maybe I am biased, but, I would be going the other way and put the vr4 stuff into the GSR....if it is the cc awd gsr that is

mmm yeah the bodies. one word.....soft.

well if there is something you need....let me know......on the other hand if you are going to get rid of the shell....again let me know.

other way around mate....

I have about six now and the cook wants me to get rid of some parts...... :(

Please don't think I was having a go mate! I am interested in these 'excess' parts that you've been 'asked' to get rid of.... will "talk" with you outside of this thread.

The brakes on a standard GSR are single piston..whereas on a standard VR4 they are usually twin piston so to swap them would be a downgrade- which isn't really advisable considering the extra weight the VR4 has.

Hi mate,
I'm also new to VR4 ownership and in Perth too. Just bought one about a month ago and motor is blown, so I'm in the middle of working out what to do without the biggest of funds available.
This forum has already helped me bucketloads just on the search function and everyone is keen to help on comments too.
Good luck!
Simmo

Most pre-facelift Jspec VR4's have single poston calipers, smaller master cylinder and different bias. Think the RS may have had twinpots but not 100% sure.

I have a set of twinpots on my auspec wreck. One caliper is in pieces (but complete, just took it apart to check it). Refresh kit for both calipers are about $90 from perth brake parts. Just take in the old shit and they match them up. I'd recommend freshening up any 2nd hand calipers anyway.
