okay so since I've owned the car I've had problems with the heat shield that goes between the dump and the alternator coming lose and vibrating. I decided instead of using aluminium brackets to hold it id use steel ones. I was driving home from work last week and heard a really loud noise like some metal hitting the bottom of my car pulled over to check the engine bay nothing missing and checked under the car nothing broken or anything. So today while changing my clutch master I realised I have no heat shield anymore, anyways back on topic, does anyone drive their car with a heat shield? I'm abit worried the alternator wire would melt from touching the dump pipe and my car would catch fire! if anyone has them on the car did you buy or make them and where and how much?

Ive just had my alternator rebuilt. Apparently the heat from the dump pipe cooked the regulator inside the alternator according to the auto electrician.. So I will be putting mine back on when the motor goes back in.

that heat shield works well and its easy enough to shape. Lock wire the bolts on and you will be good to go

Def run a heat-shield, you can also melt the wires and the big black plug that goes into the alternator. I ran mine without a shield for a while and the plug distorted and fell out.

I'm the same, no heat shield anywhere on my gsr, i hate the stupid things, lol,
its been over 10 years and a big sound system too,
I've been expecting the alt. to stuff out but still nothing, maybe the vented bonnet helps?

I take those frustrating pieces of poo and bin them. However...I have ceramic coated the the dump on one car. On the others ...I left it bare and no issues....BUT they wouldnt do 1000 kms a year

What about when people go custom dumps etc?? do they run a heat shield?? most people I know don't use them

i have a divorced dump setup on gsr with vr4 4g63. had to replace alternator last year and shield didnt fit back on so i ceramic coated the dump and wrapped it.no problems here
