Hey! I'm rebuilding of my evo 1 engine (1993 genuine cd9a). Getting all the parts together first, have seen a few engine packages including stroker kits but choices are 6 bolt or 7 bolt crank and since my engine isnt stripped yet (not even out of the car) I dont know which one it is. Have seen instances where they advertise "6 bolt crank for pre 1993 evo 1/2/3" and "7 bolt crank for post 1993 evo 4/5/6/7/8". Pre 1993 would be galant 4g63? Since evos only came out from 1993 onwards I assume I should op for the 7 bolt crank, however it states "evo 4/5/6/7/8 post 1993" unless the internals are practically the same and can use the same parts. Cheers for any help.

make sure you get the correct VRS kit to as most of the kits available come with the larger ported VR4 gaskets also the bottom end kit, you need to make sure when you replace your water pump you get the correct one.
4 available 2 to suit the EVO 123 check the very front where the pullies go, yours should have the larger boss on it.

Oil pump gasket is the other one to check! EVO 123 has a FULL gallery pump (like 2 halfes for the oil gallery () most of the gaskets have one of the galleries blocked by the gasket (|) as if the pump was flat and the cutout is in the block.

I know that sounds confusing? I'm a little confused too

but just make sure it is the same as the one that comes off!!

All this and more :p

I just rebuilt my e2 engine, and all the gaskets, rear main, water pump were wrong.
grr

All good, got the right stuff now, I can grab all the specific part numbers u will need for u if u want.

Hey thanks for all the help. If you could post part numbers that would be great.
Have another question. ARP headstud kit... 11mm or 12mm for evo 1?

11mm on E 123 can get part number also main stud kit can get part numbers for them too

Just have to read them off the box! :)

only 3 things that i had trouble with were the front cover gasket, rear main and water pump... the rest was pretty standard...

front cover gasket - MD 187905
Rear main oil seal - MD 359158
Water pump (Bursons part number) - WP3094 (same as a 2.4 magna from memory)

arp headstud kit

Hey guys, now I am really confused, ordered parts for my rebuild but was told by the supplier that ARP headstud kit should be 12mm kit and not 11mm kit as only 11mm kit was for evo 3 onwards? I have a genuine 1993 CD9A evo 1 with standard 4g63 in it, as far as I am aware its the original one from factory. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! Dont want to get the wrong bits.
Also the gudgeon pin ordered is 21mm. There is a choice between 21mm and 22mm and they picked the 21mm to order for me. Help once again! Thanks guys. I will change the order if need be depending on what you come up with. Cheers.
