Ok i've just spent the last 2 hours and quite a few other hours searching and researching GSR drive shaft topics.
Now I'd like to share my story as there are similarities as well, and differences in circumstances so any comments or advice/Criticism are greatly appreciated.
sorry about the novel.
Ok 1st to set the record straight the car is a 93 CC GL with a JAP 4G93T 1.8 Conv. with GSR gearbox and brakes still FWD (transfer-case removed)
Stud pattern PCD on Front is 4x100 with original GL hubs and drive shafts i've been told.
Never ever had any previous trouble in drive train dept.
was told 1 shaft is longer than other hence the torque steer when accelerating quickly in lower gears.
Problematic symptoms:
In February i had a vibrating shudder when turning thought time to reco the shafts as you do.
got it all done for $250 then i'm driving along 5 days later on the 14th February yep valentines day at 11pm and i turn a left bend exiting the Logan MWY at Loganlea (not a nice neighbourhood to breakdow h34r: ) and it makes the same shudder and vibration thought what the hell? i got that fixed, i guess i'll take it back to mech tomorrow.
then stopped at a STOP sign the car won't move off again. just a grindy gearbox noise and it free revs with clutch out and box engaged in 1st gear. Thought oh WTF. (Mrs was not impressed let me tell you right now ) the front passenger drive shaft had popped out of box, had to tow it to work at 1am then $120 tow to mech next day mech looked said the little clip was broken so replaced it for $2 and said it was fine after that.
Then i picked it up that afternoon and the shaft popped out this time in 4th gear at 60 just 5 minutes after picking it up. mech came out jacked it up and popped it in on the spot and took it back to shop. talked to reco guy got a whole new end done on it and put it in and test drove it, again popped out after 100m of driving.
so we got a 2nd hand drive shaft after 2 weeks of waiting for parts and being sent wrong ones. so now there is one in there now it's staying in but now the vibration and shudder is worse than ever every time it's steered any degree left at all.
Took it to APC at Underwood, Brisbane. they looked at it said that the replacement shaft i had in there now is too long and shaft is bottoming out in gearbox.
there is a 1 piece shaft in there not a 2 piece GSR one that should be. i told them it was sold as a GSR shaft to my mech by a Mitsi specialist parts parts supplier.
so now i've been informed i require a Front GSR 2 piece Drive shaft and a GSR Jack/Stub Shaft to remedy the situation.
apparently the condition doesn't need to be perfect as the Reco guy said he'll reco what ever shaft i give him for free as he owes us.
can anyone here share their own experience with this matter and how they went about solving it, and does anyone know of anyone who can supply me these parts i require, will this fix the problem for good.
got mucked around with one guy at a wrecker said he had one, we drove 40 min and he didn't have one at all and was only guessing he had one over the phone rather than checking his inventory. (tool) .
so I am pretty over being in this situation
