Hi guys, my name is Greg, and I live in Melbourne.
For the last few years I thought I was the only person in the world who considered an early model Nimbus to be a decent car!?

Now all of a sudden, I find a forum with not just one person who agrees, but a few people who have actually gone ahead and modified some!

Awsome!

I am on my second Nimbus, this one's a UB, and I put a 4G63 DOHC from an imported HH Galant GSR. It's all pretty stock ATM, (for an injected 2L twin cam nimbus), but I'm paving my way for a VR4 swap. Which is not as much work now. I wish I'd known about this forum back then!
Even with this motor, the old people mover has a usable amount of go, and great economy.

I love the practicality, sleeper, and cost factor of these cars. This one, so far, has cost under $1.5k and I'm onto my second gearbox, (cordia turbo).
Yesterday I thought I had a fast Nimbus.. Today I am humbled!:D

There's a vid of my bus here --> http://jp.youtube.com/watch?v=0Z53xrqWpF0

I also own a few Gemini's, an SP20, and an FC RX7.

This looks like a great forum!
Greg

Hi Greg welcome aboard. I'm sure I've read some of your ventures on other forums and even in an American forum somewhere A 4G63 DOHC into a Nimbus sounds sweet and I'll be interested in reading how you found the conversion and whether you had any obstacles to cross?

I too have owned a Nimbus but a 1993-1996 UF model with the 2.4 4G64 SOHC EFI in it but sold it a year or so ago. I'm thinking about getting another UF as have baby number 3 on the way and pimping out a Nimbus with mags, dark tints, tv screens etc would be the way to go. How hard is it to ditch the 4G64 SOHC EFI engine for a DOHC one? What engine loom did you use as the 4G64 used a distributor setup? cheers

Thanks guys!
I had no idea it had been done, although it's too logical not to really. I went with the conversion because the carby 4g37 went pop, from too wild a port job:p. I went to the wrecker, and he had a 80,000 k original import Galant motor siting there for similar money.
It was however, only the motor. No mounts, coilpack, cas, ignitor, oxy, flywheel or wiring...
I made up my own rear, and left enigne mounts, and PS pump bracket.
I ripped a wiring loom from a local GSR galant, and had to chop, remove and splice the sh!t out of it to get it in. I also got the ignitor from that car.
The CAS and coilpack are from a hyundai sonata or something...

I'm using a VL fuel pump in the old carby fuel lines for now.

I reckon it's ace for a $400 car

Hey dude- welcome!

Kayarubin (a member on here) had one with a VR4 motor in it!

They actually used to come out factory turbo back in 1983- it was called a 'Chariot MR'

Very similar to this:

Welcome to the club- you should roll down with us on our christmas cruise!

Christmas cruise? Sounds good. I'll search the forum for details ;)

As far as I can find, the early j-spec chariot was never twin cam. The 83 - 91 petrol turbo option seemed to have the same setup as our cordia turbos..
But, being a not widely adored car, there is not alot of material out there.

You're not wrong there! It wasn't 'till the RVR and Chariot GT when these things started getting more of a following. They're all nanna spec thats why haha

here's a link to the christmas cruise

These are usually the best cruises of the year!!

Any future planned mods??

Sorted for the cruise, would be fun provided I can get outa work for the day.

Future mods? :)
I'm thinking get an 89-91, reshell any good bits, EVO 0 motor, add another rear sway bar (or 2), knock up some coil overs, RX7 4pots.

Soon mods... Headers. Already made a mandrel 2 1/4 zorst.

Ideally, Import a limited Los Andes ski edition.. turbo, AWD, EVERY option.

Found these on a japanese site..Awsome!

Are there any AWD MX's in Oz?? I'd love to see under a real one.... ;)

Welcome Greg! Interesting Bus you have! It'd be awesome with a turbo, or maybe even a Jayrome spec supercharger kit!

Have you got any pics of your Gem or RX7? I had an RX7 and a Gemini before I got my Mitsi aswell.

Welcome to the forums

Do you guys know that a chariot actualy won a rally,

"In 1984, a part-time 4WD was added to the lineup to enhance versitility in its lineup. Later that same year, the 4WD Chariot again proved its winning heritage by winning class honors in the prestigious Pharaoh's Rally in Egypt. "

Yeah manny, I read that somewhere too... and I'm pretty sure the pharaoh's rally became the paris-dakar...

Hey matress, here are some pics of some of my old gems.. I'm up to gem 17! :D These pics are 8, 5, and 2 years ago..
