depends on whos doing it Blake!

hahahahaha 8)

depends what is the problem.. ie the owner running the car dry.. the owner thrashing the car when they were ment to run it in?.. things like that effect the condition of such items and effect how long each item takes to do.

Jon

Depends what needs to be done: dipping, boring, balancing, shaving, decking, shotpeening, blasting, coating, porting, machining, waiting for parts, waiting for people to make up their minds, waiting for people to get the cash together, weather, tools, sheered bolts, rounded nuts, rusted nuts, go nuts, welding, piping, cursing at the car, meal breaks, toilet breaks, change of clothes, pouring fluids, grazed knuckles, bandaids, eating sandwiches with greasy hands, eating greasy pizza with clean hands, eating food with bleeding grazed and greasy hands, answering phones, torquing, checking gaps, checking tolerances, checking specs then put it back together to find small niggly problems in the bolt ons nothing to do with the long motor itself like intake leaks, exhaust leaks etc. Meanwhile the customer cracks the shits cause its taking longer than expected, you want to do a proper job and advise its gonna cost more money and they arent happy. They pay up, drive the car out, treat it like shit for a few days and come back and complain that it doesnt run right. How long does it take? :p (If all goes to plan and you have everything readily available as little as a few days  ) People dont give engine builders the due credit and time to do what they do best because they dont understand what the mechanic can go through

if you are referring to me jon you have no idea..

sorry who ran their motor dry because they couldnt afford to fix their turbo after then found out it was leaking oil?

ive seen your motor and your components on your car stripped.. i just dont see why your giving the guy a hard time when to me it looks like u mistreated your own vehicle and cried fowl play when it died in the ass.

Jon

to clear things up..

the actual night it spun a bearing, i checked the oil that night AND the day after and it was above the low line on the dipstick so i don't know what low means to you.. of course it's my word against theres so it doesn't really matter..

as for the turbo, when i got my car back the first time after putting the pistons and such in, darren took of the turbo to fix a water line which had cracked and he told me the only thing he noticed was the inlet turbine wheel being damaged.. HE told me it would be normal to blow smoke for a while so i didn't take much notice of the smoke it blew when i was running it in and not THRASHING it..

It was only until i took it back for the 1000km service which i found out it had a blown seal. Yes i drove it after then for say another 150km, but at no point was there low oil in my car as i check it every mourning when i take it out..

get your facts right jon..

ill post a pic of your clutch up.. that will say it all.
it really suprised me how heat treated the flywheel and pressure plate were when i saw it.. and also the fact that the pucks were crumbling to pieces.. something ive never seen on a puck clutch before..

Jon

post it up, as most people know on the forums.. my car has spent more time at AFAS's garage then my own.. so i really haven't had much time with the car to give it that bad of a flogging..

How about building a forged motor and then forgetting to tighten the head bolts with an operational torque wrench? :p

In all seriousness, like Rob has just pointed out, it depends on the extent and complexity of your build.

Blake what about techsport? surely they know an awesome engine builder?

boys & cars :)
theres always something broken ey.

it would take me a year to rebuild an engine. I have nfi what im doing, apart from plugging in the power cable to the aircon :D ha.

Oh and I forgot sticky gooey sealer hands, threaded bolts, broken studs, re-tapping threads, heli-coils and easy-outs!!... there... I think that's it  There's always one bolt that gives you the friken shitz because God meant for it to be that way just to piss you off

Hahahaha, thats piss funny mate, I got a good laugh out of it.
I'm getting a forged re-build at APC & they said give them a few weeks, So maybe 3-4 I guess (Started building last week)
Remember they dont just have your car/engine to build, most of the time there is a few others they are doing as well.

How long is a piece of string? At a guess I work on the "Pi Factor", ie anything you estimate or what somebody tells you, multiply it by 3.14 and you might be close to what it really will be/cost. My engine build has taken 3 months sofar because I can only work on it for 4 hrs a week. It also depends on the equipment and experience you have - a rattle gun and hoist will make the job a bit easier than using a breaker bar and jack stands!
