So after pulling the new engine apart we found several small roller bearings in the bottom of the sump. And bits of curved metal with circular cutouts (which the bearings fit in to). Any ideas? We were thinking out of a turbo as there are no bearing plugs missing from the head. Will upload photos when I get home

turbo failure is most likely as I dont know of any roller bearings inside the engine....but...are they rollers or ball.....most turbo are ball or plain

I suspect a rocker has lost it's bearing. I've had the same.

Take your rocker cover off and double check all of them.

It be the turbo, but you can check the rockers easily enough.

True that.

Heres a couple of pictures of them, they're quite big compared to the rockers so I doubt they'd be from that, although I haven't seen the size of the ones in there so i may be wrong. Also, the sump and rocker cover are off, rotated the engine a few times and everything looked/sounded fine but I'll still check the rockers tomorrow.
EDIT: Yes brian they're ball bearings, my mistake, not roller.

thet are pretty big for turbo bearings.....what is the history of this engine? has it has a massive ball bearing turbo on it?

It was Sam's built engine, bought it off him yesterday, just stripped it down for a clean today and found them in the sump. Bores look clean, oil flows through to the head oil squirters and the mains (ran some through with an oil can today). Bit worried the turbo he has might be f***** though... unless those ball bearings are out of another turbo. The last turbo that was on this engine was a ball bearing turbo (Garrett GT 3076)

i think I recall he had a turbo fail on the engine....a something 25. ask him Ive no doubt he would like to know what you found.

Yeh I heard about that, I was worried it was the bearings out of the most recent turbo, the one he has for sale. But I doubt theyre from that one

Well at least we seem to have figured out where they came from, now I just hope there are none stuck anywhere in the block, I'll have to go over it again just to make sure Will let you guys know if I find any bits of skateboarder :D
