I'm going to purchase a new bonnet soon to replace my smashed up HSGR bonnet.

I have noticed from some pics on the net that people in Japan and Russia have swapped their HSGR bonnets for the SSG item with the scoop on it.

What do you guys think about the idea? I think the scoop would allow some cold air into the engine to help keep the temp a little lower than it currently is.

Would water from the rain cause any issues to the engine?

Your ideas are appreciated.

Brendan.

ssg's have a top mount cooler which sits above the coil packs so when water comes in the coilpacks stay dry..
When you run a ssg bonnet on a hsg without a custom coil pack cover they get wet and then you have dramas

I could even make up some styro foam bits to fit into the scoop so if it starts raining while im driving, simply pull over, and stuff them into the scoop. Water issue solved!

I have never had a issue with it at all :D

Not like much water gets in there anyway, but like ClutZ said there's always a way to make up a water diversion plate

Agree with tborvr, the ssg scoop seems to let more water into the engine bay when you wash the car and lift the hood after than it ever does when under way. The coil pack really is not as exposed as one would assume to the air path and rain does not fall horizontal (although I am in Perth where rain does not exist). Also the good old water tube test for pressure difference indicates that it contributes little to pressurizing the engine bay compared to the air flow through the hyper bumper - I checked this as was worried that the scoop would cause heating issues by mucking with the air flow path by over pressurizing under the bonnet.

so in short - go for it. I also have the E3 intake vent on the right side of my bonnet too so the other option is to fit the full E3 vent kit.

I can only seem to find RVR bonnets with no scoop on the Gold Coast. I called Just Mitsubishi and they only have the non scoop models. Anyone know anywhere on the Gold Coast that's selling SSG bonnets?

You wouldn't want my bonnet. It's hail damaged.

Thanks for thinking of me though! There must be one on the Gold Coast somewhere.....

New bonnet painted and fitted.

What do you think about how I have had the black strip at the top painted white as well?
