Thought we should have a clutch thread for diagnosis and part numbers based on my current situation!

Had a bit of an problem yesty with the clutch after work, crept the RVR to my parents place nearby and had a look over and found the clutch reservoir bottle empty.

Back at work today so Dad's gotten some fluid and topped it up, then pumped the fluid through. He thinks he's gotten most of, if not all, the air out but is letting it sit for a while then will take it for another driver shortly and check the feel of the clutch as well as the reservoir. He said there's more definitely more feel back in the clutch. Yay.

however, he's found a slow leak in the master cyl so I'll need a newbie. Can someone confirm these part numbers are correct?

Loz head out to Perth Brake Parts and they will be able to help you out - From memory the slave is an evo 3 slave and the master is similar again (I rebuilt mine as I just had a poor rubber and no internal corrosion) From memory the slave is under $30. Hope this helps - you will need to pull the parts from the car so they can measure everything up for a perfect match

Thanks Dr - I just called Hitech Clutch & Brakes here in Wangara and they've suggested I bring it down to see if they can match up, or option B is they will overhaul. I can get the parts out and they'll charge $120 for the master and $100 for the slave (or they can remove and refit the overhauled items a $88/hr labour)

Le sigh. I love my car but just when you have all the bills and shit out the way these things tend to happen!

Dr - is it hard to reach the 2 cylinders on the car to get them out and in?

I know how you feel Loz - I have had a love hate relationship with my RVR for some time - but the good times over rule the bad. Slave cylinder is easy - two bolts and a brake line fitting to undo on the front of the gbox. The master is fairly easy to get to but does require some contortion work inside to undo the piston rod clevis from your pedal assembly and then its two bolts on the firewall and another brake line fitting. U will have to remove the inlet pipe to your throttle body as well to get to the firewall. Generally they are easy to overhaul but I am surprised at the price of the slave cylinder given they are nothing special.

Hey tborvr - I actually saw that yesty, $37 sounds better doesn't it? :) My slave looked ok BUT having said that I'm going to order one from Meek anyway to have on hand.

Just went to Hitech and they matched up the master cyl to one off a Triton. While I was there I politely requested they swap over the bit which attaches to the brake pedal for me which took them 2 seconds to do.

So $90 later, new master cyl, 5 mins of my time in the shop and it's ready to go back in this arvo. :)

Thats a slightly different slave cylinder to the one I changed on my HSG but it worked so SWEET!!

Hey Clutz - I did think I should've grabbed my old master off them to confirm later - but I was a day late in thinking this. At the time I just wanted to get home and fix my car. But he did lay them next to each other on the bench and I'm usually pretty good with eyeing off what matches up and I recall thinking 'perfect fit'

In any case, the RVR is going great guns again :)

I remember when the slave in my old RVR shat itself- I replaced it on the street in the pouring rain! Shifted like a brand new car once it was bled!

Thanks for the part number Lozzle ! this master cylinder also works for SSG as well. Replaced mine today after the pedal got stuck on the floor.
