Dre. There's no contradiction in my post. They are two completely seperate statements. Maybe you should read them a little closer before posting a roll eyes next time.

To simply emulate this test... get your garden hose, point into flat brick wall.. turn on full blast..

It simply doesn't work. That is why almost ALL (can't be too sure) manufacturers use some form of gradual bend for intake / intercooler / exhuast piping...

I've also tested this myself building square end tanks on a past intercooler.. the engine would make a massive pinging noise everytime I gave it some gas... I had no idea what it was at the time... I have learnt my lesson!

Well yes and no baz. Gas flow doesn't follow the exact same laws as liquid flow, but it's similar. The piping would be shitful but it would still work.

Was the engine detonating Baz?
My new intercooler has square end tanks. :(

whats the problem? its lobster backs, just like they do it in japan........

no its not a lobster back

and as for the pipe work being ok and not being that restrictive your kidding right

It was a twin pass cooler system where the in/out are on the same side.
The end that did the U turn was square. This was the problem. I changed it to angled and it got rid of the problem.

As for pinging, it was basically a constant marble rattling in the engine sound. Once the tanks were fixed, the noise went away.
