I need a tow car!!

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

I used to tow with a 90' Hilux SR5 space cab. 2.4ltr petrol.
Towed great with an open trailer. Easy to get parts for, cheap and plenty of tray room for tools.

i brought a auto rvr for towing. have no idea how it will pan out but i cant imagine it being too bad.

wouldnt go a disco to exspensive to repair would stick to the hiluxes or even falcon or commodore all cheap to repair and have good tow ratings

i dont think u can go past a cruiser or patrol 4.2 diesel. you might be lucky to find one around tour price range. i have a 80 series turbo diesel. a bit priecy but great tow car. try to stay away from a 4 cyl tow car. you will be disapointed unless it is turbo.

ive got a 95 rodeo ute and it tows well but lacks the get up and go, espicially in hills etc, the old commodores/falcons are a good suggestion, very cheap to repair compared to a 4wd

having work in the Four wheel drive repair business for a few years, I would say to avoid a disco due to the costs of repairs and on going problems a vehicle in that price range will undoubtedly have. Particularly avoid the V8 petrol drinkers......oil leaks and gearbox issues

If your choice is in a four wheel drive, try the old sixty series turbo diesel landcruiser. these will be in your price bracket and i believe your could get a very good one for that sort of bucks. they average around 4k over here with plums running to 6k

yep go the landbruiser jon, my mums got one and it tows my coupe around on a open float with ease. loads of room and you can comfortbly seat 5 blokes, parts, beer etc

I tow with a turbo diesel Ford Transit Van, they have 2800kg towing and tow great, also you can use it to store stuff in the back and are very reliable from 2002 and on.

pfft wered you pull that from not one transit van is reliable that i have ever herd off:thumbsdown:

i hate them with a passion :fuuuuu:

Keep in mind the tow rating of the car, most commodores can only to 1600kgs.
In all honesty, the 2wd Hiluxs are a good work horse.
Heres a pic of my latest set up.

thank you for your very informative post.. EP.

Jon

Its very informative, if you dont know much about Discos <_<

Anything Mitsu, 4WD and petrol will chew way too much juice. My Challenger would use close to 16L/100Kms, and thats without a trailer.

What about a MK Triton Turbo Deisel? Youd need a bit more than 6k though.
