I need a tow car!!

4GTuner

Help Support 4GTuner:

diesel paj would be good, mk triton might not be very good for towing in tight streets the turning circle is pathetic. heaps of grunt tho, also check that they have a genuine towbar because most hayman reice tow bars strech the chasis on most mitsu's...

If you don't need to tow on the highway, or for long distances, find an old diesel Toyota Dyna. They top out at about 90 kph but they go forever.

I was after something more i can tow my cars around.. and also take out bush for abit of fun? nothing serious just something other then racing cars :)

keep the suggestions coming!

Thanks

Jon

For the 6k mark prehaps think about a Falcon.. we had an EL before the pajero and that was fantastic to tow with.. heaps of torque and quite nice to drive. You can probbaly get a AU for about that money now.

We've got an NP ('05) T/D pajero now and its FATNASTIC.. I wouldnt want to trade it for anything. tows and drives like a dream, heaps of grunt, great economy, awesome off road.... *they are a bit more than $6k tho....*

And as my mate found out the other weekend while towing his rally car to an event, don't overload the rear or they pull the drive shafts out of the rear diff on full compression and that then sprays diff oil all over MY friggin trailer :fuuuuu:.

I would say get the NL Pajero get the 3.5 SOHC one, you might pick one up for around that price, its the pick of the engines in whats called the Gen 2 Pajeros. There was a 3.5 DOHC that made more power but its torque spread was crummy which made it bad for 4WDing and not as good as towing. The NL is great off road too, it runs a live axel rear end(this is a good thing for towing and 4wding). Brakes are good I believe they run the same calipers as the Evo 3's. There were also the last of the Pajeros that had a ladder frame chassis which is good again for what you want.

I owned one for a few years and used to tow with it and wheel it hard... a little too hard caused its death. Would have bought another one but didnt have the coin at the time.

there is a recall on them mate, its the cir clip on the inner part of the drive shaft is too small. tell your mate to take it to a dealer and they should fix it for free:thumbsup:

Yeah, I believe he got it done this week. Also got some air bags fitted in the back to help when towing as well.

yeh nl pajeros have the same twin pots up front, good overall car. i would still buy the turbo diesel. as the petrol pajero's dont like e10 fuel and that seams to be all we are gunna get know...

Not sure if its been suggested already, but why not a commodore ute?
I have an old pig VP ute (1992), V6 5spd, it tows excellent. The tray allows heaps of tools, spares etc but better yet, take everything out and i can get 600k's out of a tank if needed.

Just a thought.
Mike.

GQ Patrol cheaper than a cruiser and are even more unbreakable
push your price and maybe an F250 6 cylinder REALLY economical compared to the v8
