in car camera

hi guys,have purchased a lipstick camera for track days and was in the process of trying to mount it somewhere in the cabin of my gsr, i tried it out on the rear parcel shelf but its field of view is not good enough to see out of the windscreen.
Was trying to come up with some sort of bracket on the rear view mirror but so far no luck,as a last ditch effort it will have to go in the grill,but would prefer to have it looking over the bonnet,has anyone installed one of these before?? any suggestions for mounting it would be appreciated.

pull the headrest out, get a piece of sheetmetal and drill two holes for the headrest studs. Line holes with some rubber, mount camera to sheetmetal, push headrest all the way down.

Temporary mount but it'll have a good view Shouldn't move around much either if you jam the headrest down ontop of it?

Otherwise I guess you could get happy with the welder and metal and make something that bolts into your floor or something.

cheers guys....i should have mentioned..the car has sparco race seats so headrest option is out,was planning on hardwiring the camera into the car so was looking for a bit of a permanent mounting solution,without drilling holes in the dash etc.. :?: :?:

when i have used cameras in cars i have found you get a better sensation
of speed if you can still see the dash on the inside.

in my mates targa car we have 3 lipstick cameras, 1 between the seats looking forward from the roll cage hoop

1 from near the interior mirror looking forward and one back on the driver and nav.



for a normal video camera we used in a bmw m3 we made a aluminium
plate the bolts to the child restraint points on the parcel shelf (camera mounts to the plate) and points between the seats. we had it set up so that we could both be seen in the outer edges of the shot(driver & nav)
and imo this gave the best results overall.


if it was zoomed forward to much it looks like you are doing 40kmh when you are actually doing 140

I just noticed that your camera runs off 4 AA battries. 4 X 1.5volt = 6volt.

Can you hard wire it into your car?

Cheers DOUGMO this was the idea i was trying to run with but had trouble coming up with designing a mount to attatch to the mirror/or mirror mount holes?? you wouldnt happen to have a pic of this setup by any chance?
i went with the lipstick camera as scrutineers are starting to get a bit picky with in car handicams and not having a rollcage makes mounting one within cams guidelines a bit of a drama

takes 8 aa batteries...and uses them up at a furious rate , runs 12v 400mha so thought hardwiring it with a fuse and a switch was the way to go,will just extend all the rca leads and run them under the roof lining and into the centre console for the recorder.

the m3 we had this setup in had no cage, hence the mount to the parcelshelf. this setup passed cams scrutiny no worries as it was securly
bolted down to the shelf itself.

all mounts in the targa car were on the cage itself

I have a camera on a suction cup that I can mount just about anywhere that is flat, (Or almost flat) like Glass or body pannels. Works well.
