Hey everyone,

Just wondering what you all have fitted as far as air filters, cold induction kits etc go. I have a 4g63 so particularly keen to hear any responses from other owners as I know the air flow sensor on mine doesn't like some filters (particularly ones that swirl the air as it is inducted). Currently has a SARD air filter fitted...

Does anyone have any opinions? Has anyone done anything custom? Pics would be good too.

Feel free to share opinions also.

Thanks.

On my EVO 3 I have a K&N Pannel filter in the Factory Air box to keep out hot air, & with a 3" flex pipe going into the front of the drivers side of the front bumper with a Big bell mouth, the EVO 3 has good room on the bumper.

I have pretty much the same but on a gsr

 the apexi power intake is shit!
it's like putting your car on a diet, i got nowhere near enough air at 1bar.
try a steel-mesh based filter like the blitz sus.

from my experience, it wasn't much better (if any) than a standard box/k&n.
i haven't tried the blitz sus yet but i'm using a semi mesh item and it's noticably better than the pos apexi one, so i'm guessing a full mesh filter would flow alot better.. in an evo anyway. thats where my next upgrade is going.

Im running a relocated 3 1/2' air intake pipe which has the AFM connected to it. It runs directly into the turbo. It sits in a box that sits behind the drivers side headlight. Theres a pipe that runs under my guard (drivers side) 3 1/2' in diametre that gets air from a front damn in the front bar.

The pod im running is a 4 1/4' Simota full mesh racing pod.

Had good results with it.. basically speak for themselves..

Cost was $50 and well worth it.

the blitz full mesh ones have been said to not be able to hold dust and other foreign objects and thus gets into the engine..

Good link to the page on the filtration comparisons Tharaka  . It's evidence that even the brand names have some quality-challenged products  Let's face it, the brand name plays a big part in a purchase and how many times have you heard people big-note themselves by saying "hey Habib, I've got a HKS filter, HKS cams, HKS cam gears, and a HKS sticker bro" (sound like anyone you know? ) We do place a lot of trust in the companies that are being widespread used in racing applications as they are proven performers. Some products are proven time and time again as great items like the HKS cams for example. But if we keep buying the same brand name products over and over again how can we tell if each item is any good or not? They cant have the best 'everything' can they? Comparisons like that (if done fairly and un-bias) are always welcome in my books

doesnt also the rate of airflow depend on the filtration of the pod? so if it is able to flow in more air therefore its filtration isn't as good as another pod that doesn't let as much air in but provides better filtration? thus its a good idea to get something in between?..

that's a good point... but what effect is the dirtier air having on the actual performance of the engine? more are but not as clean vs slightly less but cleaner... maybe it's not noticeable.

filters are there for a reason. The factory filters arent restrictive just for Sh#Ts and giggles. If the engine is suckin in dirty air the life of ur engine will be dramatically reduced. Plus it doesnt take much to damage a compressor wheel spinning at the speeds they do.

Honestly the power difference between most brand name filters is next to nothing. The pressure drop across an air filter is usually pretty small compared to the drop caused by the airbox, pre airbox piping, and AFM to turbo piping.

It would be much more productive to spend the money on a good CAI setup feeding the factory airbox, and a straighter/larger pipe from the AFM to turbo.

just my opinion.

Need to make an air box for it though.

I have a K&N 4" Pod sitting down in the space in front of the right hand side wheel - I am running a MAP sensor with my new ecu - with that AFM removed makes a world of difference. I am getting positive intake pressue at around 2500RPM and full boost (15psi) by 3500RPM easy. 8)

hks pod but i clean every 5,000 kms and a filter spray reason hks was bought cheaply just has to be maintained.
