today I tried to get insurance for my daughter on the cc GSR she drives. i was some what surprised at the quotes i got.

when insured for "market value 6050.00" the prices varied from 1300.00 to 2540.00 for comprehensive insurance on a 30% no claim bonus. this was a bit of a shock as my gsr is insured at agreed value of 8500.00 and my premium is 324.00 for the year for comprehensive insurance she is 19 and has a clean driving record. Im 51 and have a.... well bit of a history lets say. now the insurance company i deal with knows all about my past offences and crashes, will add her as a driver to my policy for my car and then give the applicable age excess BUT will not actually issue her a policy for her own car. they say they dont insure drivers under 25 in turbo cars????

so now Im a bit confused about who to get the insurance with....

..who is getting a good deal and where.

these days if you're under 21 and driving a turbo/modifed car you will be forking out alot of money for insurance.. i think only justcars will insure her

Think olly is on the money, quite hard to find cover at that age with a turboed car, justcars seem to offer cover for most younger drivers and vehicles...but think their premiums can be quite steep.

I am insured with shannons and get a great deal (and my gsr is inured for a rediculous agreed value) it may pay to talk to them, but your daughters age once again play a part in their answer.

I pay about 1100 through RAC insured for 11,200 and I'm 22. I think im on 50% ncb and havent had any claims

Yeah I found it hard getting insurance for my WRX when I had it when I was 17.. Plus even when I got the evo... Probably the easiest place to get insurance through will be Just Cars, and they will charge a bit, the first year I had my evo it cost $3k for comprehensive- then I managed to get Shannons to insure it for under restoration and they quoted about the same for comprehensive when it returns to the road based on those details...

Now I get a multi policy discount cause of the ralliart colt but that still costs about $1100 a year...

thanks for the replies I have tried justcars......"just tried to take her first born!!" I think he was confused about where i live so was covering his butt in the premium

Chris thanks mate....RAC was cheapest today as well.

Try using a broker. Going direct to insurance companies generally gets you bitten on the arse.

With a stupidly modified VR4, agreed value at 18k, 22yo w/"clean" record (no suspensions/convictions) and Rating 3... Comp for me was 883 dollars with all the mods listed.

I rang justcars for the same thing and they quoted me like 2100. Brokers pay for themselves.

Mine
#Over 25 with clean history
# Evo III with, 19's, coilovers, exhaust.
#Premium $660, excess $1500 Agreed at 25K Value

I used the Just cars Adjust-Excess, and maxed it to $1500.

No one would touch me with the VI And I'm 23. Like everyone ended up goin with JustCars, but when I'm old enough I will swap to Shannons. I'm paying $890 premium for Full Comp with a ridiculous excess and I'm rating one. Used the Ad-just thing too, other wise it was $2100 p/year.

Unfotunately you'll find high prices are pretty normal.
The prices of our cars is dropping rapidly, whereas insurance is rising.
I was quoted $2400 full comp, minor mods, clean record.
Thats a quarter of my cars worth (before mods). just doesnt pay to be under 21 and driving a turbo car.

i'd prefer going 3rd party anyway, just make sure when you do get full comp you know all the details. eg. who's the repairer, do you get to choose your own.

i know with just cars they use there own but with shannons you get to choose your repairer.

I paid like $440 for 3rd party, I probably should look into full comp if some of you guys are getting it for $800-$900.

I will be paying $550 for full comp and agreed value of $6.5k with Shannons.. 400 excess. But I am 27.
Currently paying $12 a month until it's on the road.

Im with just car.
1200 for my vr4 full comp. 11K agreed value. Unlimited mods allowewd as long as you declare them. But ive heard they are ass holes when i comes to claims if you havent declared istuff or are illegal.

And you can add varying levles to you excess to drop the premium. I added 1100 and it drops my premium 400 to 800 a yr.
Miind you my excess is like 2200, normal excess, age excess then the extra 1100!

Im 20. and lost my licence for hoon 3 yrs ago, but it didint raise the premium as it was for excessive noise, a petty charge, not wreckless or pissy driving.
