Well, just thought I would put it out there...

I have a friend of a friend that is going to look at painting the GSR/Evo III project I have been working on ...

Now the car was not really in the best shape when it came to it's body .. I spent 2k on getting it all straightened, and that is 100% OK now ... Some of the little dents were taken out at this stage, but there is still some more work to be done...

Also, some of the panels (mainly just front guard, and drivers door) just needs to have the gaps aligned a bit as it is not quite the same as the other gaps on the other side...

So, my mates friend has given me a rough quote for 5k to re-spray the car... That is to take the windows out, and to do the door jams, but not remove the motor, or paint under the carpet ... (which does not bother me anyway) ... This is pretty much a cash job, so is it a good price ???

depends on the quality of work...

i paid 2.5K a couple of years ago.. but had it resprayed the same colour... and same work ur getting done (door jams but not engine bay)

the end result i was happy... very little to complain about... but not perfect ya know... just little imperfections if you inspect

if youve seen this blokes work and its 100% perfect , it might be worth it for you...

how much detail?
what style of paint? 2pac? 3 layer? metallic? pearl?
what type of clear?
flowcoating?
original or dif color?
how much prep work?

standard paint jobs are about 2.k so 5k you would expect show quality.

I paid $6,500, but had a custom bonnet made, clear side indicators, deleted door locks etc....

I didn't paint the engine bay or under carpets but the door jambs were painted due to the new colour chosen. I had a bit of rust and body straightening aswell.

Before:

After: Chrysler Crossfire Blaze Red Crystal Pearl...

They are the questions I will be asking him tomorrow... I think the estimate was just done on acrylic ... It will be a different colour ... Not too much prep work is needed as a fair amount of the body was sanded and filled when I had the other dents removed and the auto-robot did the car... I will also be asking how many layers of clear and colour he will be doing ...

I am thinking of a darker blue then what I have now ... have been tossing up between black, or the blue ... Still not sure, but will see on Saturday ...

Rough quote was just done by explaining that there are some dents and panels that need to be aligned... I think the boot needs to have something done also, as when you drive the car, over every bump, you hear the boot squeak .... And you can move it a little by hand (up & down) when the boot is closed....

you dont want to many layers as when a stone hits it there will be a huge crater left where it hit and also i tends to crack later down the track

way too expensive.
id get the engine done too...ud prob regret it later....especially coz ure engine bay looks so sexy...seing a differnt colour will be the first thing ppl look at...
but thats is way overpriced especially if theres not much prep work to be done.
get some more quotes. i say do it once do it properly.

Yeah, will do some more shoppin around...

I don't want to risk pulling the engine bay apart tho.... It is a tight fit in there, and I don't want to mess with it ... I fear that if the stuff is pulled out, it is going to cost a lot more to put it all back ... :(

ooooooooh,
fair enough,
in that case then id go for a colour similar to your engine bay colour but in a pearl of somesort...
that way looks all the same

i got half my car resprayed, (front bar, bonnet, 2 doors, 2 guards and my sideskirts) for $1200. They also repaired my bonnet and some dents. Awesome job aswell cos it was a hard job trying to match it to the rest of the car.

Shame you don't live in Melb, Tropic Motors would of been the way to go!

That is a lot, I had my rusty torana done in a dark colour (multiple coats of 2 pac, and a clear coat over the top), the engine bay black, underside of the car done in stone proof paint and the interior done in that bitumised paint.. cost 6900 bucks (about 5 years ago). It was perfect. If you're getting the majority of that done, then it's a great price, if it's an acrylic respray... get some more quotes. Mates rates should be good :D

DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT go acrylic, make sure its a 2 pak job
acrylic softens in heat, so every hot day ur paint turns to jelly

OK ... Took the car there ... Rough quote was to take the car back to metal ... This is because some of the paint is peeling off around the door frames, and we can't be sure that a propper job was done when it was painted this blue...

Colour will remain blue ... Looking at the Mazda RX8 colour ... Will be 2pac ... Quote was 5-7.5k as they are not sure if all the panels are still straight or how much work it is all going to take...

I have to go back next week and speak with the boss ... Looks like she will be costing me a shit load more then I had ever planned for this car.. But such is my run of luck ...

Should have kept the engine in the Sonata

Well if it's decent work that's a reasonable price, especially being painted in and out.

Well im paying $6600 for marble paintwork from Racepaint and thats door jams, under bonnet and the car is going there already apart and in primer
