J spec VS A spec Gearboxes

Hi, can some please tell what the differnces between the A and J spec VR4 gearboxes and can they be interchanged.

the only difference you may encounter (as i did) is that i had a switchable transfer case on my auspec vr4 (go figure) and not on a japspec box i got. these are ok to switch over no dramas. the other differences i got was also on the japspec box where the cables clip up to the gear change linkages, that bracket was different. i swapped that bracket with the auspec one and sweet as. internally the main difference you should be concerned about is the diff ratio, and with my one they are the same. im not sure if the gear ratios are different, but that should be too much of a drama even if they were.

put simply yes you can swap them over with minimal fuss.

Depending on the year, you can have either 22 or 23 splines on the input shaft to the tcase.

This is the only major hurdle.

So if the box comes with the transfer there should be no problem then , am asking as my Aus spec box with the clutch out in netural is making a knocking noise.

sounds like the throw out bearing is worn, can be changed along with the clutch & had nothing to do with the internal health of ur box
