Just in case no-one has done this yet I have wired up my self Diagnostic terminal to a push switch and LED and mounted in dash. Now if I have any probs I just press the button in and read the pulses to get my error code.I used a terminal to hook up for easy removal in case I wanted to hook up a data logger later. An audible buzzer could also be used and the switch put in a less obvious position but this set up doesn't bother me.

Muzza... I can see your brain ticking away, you are a electronics nut  Show us what you did please as thats a pretty cool mod (might do it to the Mrs car) :)

No worries.Yes you are right I am a nut but not an electronics one lol.It is very easy and anyone can do it.
First you need a push switch. One that doesnt stay on when released.
A LED.
Two 300 mm length wires 10 amp is over kill. One red and one black just to be technical.
One female terminal to conect to your Self Diagnostic Terminal. You know what you hook your data logger up to.
One eye terminal for earth.
Solder female term to the red wire and other end to the LED.Solder other side of LED to the switch and from the switch run black wire to earth. You can also use a buzzer if you wish for an audible code choice is yours.
Its that easy and done in 10 mins.I will create a wiring diagram for those more tecnically minded.Where you fit this is totally up to you.You can hide it if you wish for that clean unclutered look.Hey you never know you might break down on the highway middle of nowhere and you can tell RACQ or NRMA my coil pack has crapped and bring me a new one.

Oh Ye I think this will only apply to OBD-I systems. With OBD-II systems you can check your code from turning on and off your ignition 3 times within 5 seconds and your check engine light will flash your code.Someone else might want to confirm or correct this.

This might help.

That's exactly the same as the setup on the 300zx ecu, except you don't have to take off the kick panel to see it. Excellent work, and good forward thinking too.
